To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK ANTHONY PLATZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt Waists, of whichthe following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawpart thereof broken away,-and Fig. 2 a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
In the practice of my invention 1 provide a shirt-waist A, which may be composed of any desired materialf and which is of the usual general form, arid secured to the inner side of the lower part'of the back thereof is a supplemental or auxiliary strip or sheet A, which is stitched in position, as will be readily understood, and the ;back B, or the lower portion thereof, is cut oif or cut away up to the line C, as shown in Fig. 1, or to the point C in Fig. 2, and formed in the upper part of the strip or sheet A are a plurality of buttonholes a, and I also providea plurality of straps D', which are provided with buttons at at their upper ends, which are secured thereto and which are adapted to be buttoned into the strip or sheet A through the holes a, and
said straps are passed through corresponding holes or openings at in the strip or sheet A and extend downwardly below the cut-away portion of the back B at C, as clearly shown in; Fig. 2. The lower ends thereof are pro- 5 vided with buttons E,to which the waistband of the trousers is secured, and the back B is securely stitched to the strip or shield A between said straps.
Passing entirely around the lower body portion of the shirt-waist in line with the lower ends of the straps D isa band G, which is designed to strengthen the shirt-waist, and secured thereto in .line with the buttons E on the straps D are. a plurality of buttons F, which are intended for the same purpose as the buttons E, and the trousers may thus be buttoned to the shirt-waist and whenbuttoned thereto Will inclose the lower part thereof. This construction is for the purpose of giving strengthto the waist and to more securely support the trousers, and my improved means '-for accomplishing this result is well adapted for this purpose-and will not add materially to the cost of the' garment. Having fully described :my invention, I claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent As ,a new article of manufacture, an improved shirt-waist, consisting of a body portion having a lower portion of the back thereof cut away and in lieu thereof a supplemental piece stitched to the inner surface of back and having openings therein, and a plurality of straps secured to said'piece and passed outwardly through said piece and the ends thereof being adapted to be secured to any desired object by means of buttons, substantially as shown and described.
