H. W. HENRY. GARMENT SLEEVE OR LEG ADJUSTING DEVICE. No. 461,434. 7 Patented 0013.20, 1891.
' UNITED STATES HARRIS IV. HENRY, OF ZANESVILLE, OHIO.
GARMENT SLEEVE OR LEG ADJUSTING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,434, dated October 20, 1891.
Application filed February 28, 1891. Serial No. 383,316. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, HARRIS W. HENRY, a citizen of the United States, residing. at Zanesville, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Length-Regulator; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and 6X- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The special object of the invention is to attach to sleeves of coats and the legs of pantaloons some device by which the length of said sleeve or leg may be adjusted without making unseemly folds or puckers at or near the lower ends thereof here they would be noticeable and therefore objectionable to the wearer.
Figure l-of the drawings is a plan view of my invention attached to the inside of a coatsleeve; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section thereof; Fig. 3, a detail view of the length-regulator; Fig. 4, an elevation showing my device applied to pantaloons.
In the drawings, A represents a sleeve or pantaloon-leg, and B the length-regulator, which consists of the two cords b b and button-hole piece 1/ with finger-opening b and one or more button-holes h The free ends of the cords b b are attached at the shoulderseam of a sleeve and then passed down through two pockets 0 O, separated by a seam c and provided with the outside seams c c. On the middle seam, between the pockets, I secure one or more buttons D, which are intended to engage the button-hole b the latter being shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. In Fig. 4 the reverse is shown.
I am aware that a tape or metallic plate has been secured to a ladys dress by a hook or other means and provided with a hole at the lower end to engage one or more buttons on the dress, so as to regulate its elevation; but this would not answer my purpose at all, because it would make large and unseemly folds near the end of arm or leg. By arranging the two cords in pockets between longitudinal scams 0 c c I make no fold or pucker at all near the end of the arm or leg, where the garment is wanted to hang smooth and even, but transfer thenecessarypuckeringto the upper ,part of arm or leg, where it is distributed in small puckers, which attract no notice and are scarcely observable.
The invention is applicable to arms and legs of any garment. Hence IVhat I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A garment having a length-regulator attachment of the sleeve or leg thereof, the same consisting of the cords b b, button-hole piece 1), pockets (1 O, seams c c c, and buttons D D, the latter arranged on the middle seam c to engage holes I) in the piece I), as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimonywhereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRIS IV. HENRY.
