Description

- A. PIOTROWSKI COMBINATION VEST AND BELT Filed April 22 1924 INVENTOR' ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 16, 1924.
UNi'l'iED STATES ANTHONY PIOTROWSKI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COMBINATION VEST AND BELT.
Application filed April 22, 1924. Serial No. 708,110.
To aZZ whom. 2'25 may macern:
Be it known that l, ANTHONY Fro'rnow- SKI, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Vests and Belts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to mens garments, having more particular reference to a novel type of vest which is particularly serviceable in summer weather and which is in the form of a belt, and covers the top of the trousers, without however extending up to the shoulders of the wearer, the invention having for an object the provision of a novel and improved garment of this sort.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawing is a face view of my improved garment showing it extended.
Fig. 2 is a top edge view indicating it as in actual use.
In constructing my improved garment I provide an outer facing element in the form of a band 10 which may be of suflicient length to substantially encircle the waist of the user and which may be relatively wide at the centre thereof, which forms the front of the garment, and may taper toward each end. This band is mounted on an inner band 12 which is of less width than the outer band at the centre thereof and which is of approximately the same width at the ends, the inner band being slightly longer than the outer one. As here shown the ends of the outer band have attached at one end thereto the short elastic braids 14 which are attached at opposite ends to the inner band and which serve the purpose of keeping the outer band. in proper tension. The outer band is also engaged between its ends with the inner band in a manner to permit of slight relative movement of the two parts, the inner band being here shown as formed with a vertical loop 16 which engages a horizontal loop 17 on the outer band. The inner band is provided at one end with an extended tab 18 and at the other end with a buckle 19 with which this tab may be engaged whereby the said band may be tightened upon the waist of the user.
In order to provide a support for the trousers I may provide on the inner face of the inner band the loops 22 which are adapted to have passed through the straps 23 fixed to the top edge of the trousers at one end and having suitable buttonholes in their opposite ends which receive buttons 24 on the trousers and thereby detachably secure the said opposite ends of the straps 23 to the trousers, the latter being indicated at T in Fig. 2. Nhen these straps are engaged with the loops 22 on the inner band 12 the latter will act as a support for the trousers as will be apparent. I may provide pockets such as 26 on the inner face of the inner band.
The outer element 10 may be of silk or other suitable material, and may also be of any suitable design or pattern, or provided with any suitable ornamentation that may be desired, while the inner band is preferably made of linen or like material.
As will be, apparent, I have provided an ornamental garment which presents substantially the appearance of a vest of the type worn with evening or dinner coats, while lacking the warmth which is an undesirable feature of the ordinary vest in summer weather. It will be noted that with the particular arrangement here shown the outer band is only kept in sufiicient tension to lit properly and does not cling closely to the inner band.
W hile I have illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction therein shown and that various changes and modifications might be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Let ters Patent of the United States is as fol lows 1. A garment of the class described comprising inner and outer bands, the outer band being shorter than the inner band, and elastic braids attaching the ends of the outer band to the inner band whereby the outer band is held under slight tension when the garment is being worn.
2. A garment of the class described comprising inner and outer bands, the outer band being shorter than the inner band, and elastic braids attaching the ends of the outer band to the inner band whereby the outer band is held under slight tension when the garment is being worn, and means connecting the two bands together between their ends to permit of slight relative displacement thereof. 7
3. A garment of the class described comprising inner and outer bands, the outer band being shorter than the inner band, and elastic braids attaching the ends of the outer band to the inner band whereby the outer band is held under slight tension when the garment is being worn, and means connecting the two bands together between their ends to permit of slight relative displacement thereof, comprising a vertical loop on one band and a horizontal loop on the otherband engaged with the vertical loop.
4. A garment of the class described comprising an outer band, an inner band of slightly greaterlength than the outer band, means for attaching the ends of the inner band to one another, elastic braids connecting the ends of the outer band to the inner band, and interlocking loop elements mounted on the respective bands between their ends.
5. A garment of the class described coinprising'an outer band, an inner band of slightly greater length than the outer band, means for attaching the ends of the inner band to one another, elastic braids connecting the ends of the outer band to the inner band, and interlocking loop elements mounted on the respective bands between their ends, and loops on said inner band adapted to be engaged with a second garment to support the latter.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
ANTHONY PIOTROWSKI.
