To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM NORMAN, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Cliftonville, Locking Road, lVestoaSuper-Mare, in the county of Somerset, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Supports and the like, of which the following is a specification. p j

My invention relates to a new or improved device or appliance forlsupporting trousers and the like wearing-{apparel of the type adapted to be supported at the waist.

The object of the invention is to rovide an easily manipulated device or appliance which will support such articles with more comfort to the wearer, which will allow more freedom of movement and which may be easily adjusted to suit the girth of the wearer and at the Same time effectively support the garment without imparting unnecessary strain on the material thereof, as is often the case With the usual type of brace.

According to the invention, the device or appliance comprises two or more bands, strips or the like connected together by one or more non-elastic strips, provided with adjusting means in the form of a buckle or the like. The outer free ends of the strips or bands are each provided with one or more loops or perforated or slotted tabs or the like co-operating with buttons or other means on the trousers, said buttons being located towards opposite sides and at the waist, preferably in the neighborhood of the side pockets or seams.

In th preferred construction acccording to the invention, the bands, strips or the like carrying the loops are formed of elastic material of suitable width and length, and each may be formed in one or more strands or of one or more thicknesses of material. The outer ends of the elastic bands are provided with loops or the like, preferably secured to transverse strips sewn or otherwise fastened or incorporated with the ends of the elastic bands so as to constitute the same time binding strips therefor to prevent fraying.

The inner ends of each of the elastic bands are each attached as by sewing to a second hand or strip of non-elastic material, such as canvas, sof leather, or any other suitable material. The inner ends of the elastic strips may be drawn towards one another by a single non-elastic strip or strips, one of which carries a buckle with which the free end of the other engages, or any other suitable fastening or adjusting means may be employed.

The various bands or. strips may be doubled upon themselves and connected together by links or slotted plates of metal or other material.

In order that the invention may ily understood reference is made to companying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a front elevation showing the upper portion of a pair of trousers withthe improved supporting appliance attached thereto.

Fig. 2 is a similar view seen from the rear.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view to a larger scale of the supporting appliance.

The device comprises a pair of bands or strips or the like a, b of elastic material which are made of suitable width and length. The outer ends of each of these bands have secured thereto a pair of loops 0, c, which may be attached in any suitable manner as by sewing or the like, the ends of the elastic bands being preferably provided with transverse non-elastic strips (Z which form a binding for the ends of the bands.

The inner ends of the hands a, are also each preferably provided with transverse binding strips 0, e, to which are secured the ends of strips or hands f, g of non-elastic material. The strip 7 is comparatively short in length and has secured to its free end a buckle it while the band 9 is of any convenient length to enable the length of the device between the loops at opposite ends to be adjusted within pro-determined limits.

The non-elastic strip may be provided with one or more loops or the like It through which the free end of the strip 9 is passed when the same has been adjusted within the buckle,

shown in F 1. The buttons are located one above the other, preferably in close proximity to the side pockets or side seams of the garment, but'they may, of course, be located just above the top of the pocket or slightly to the rear thereof if desired. Or

A supporting device for trousers and the like Wearing apparel comprising a pair of bands'eachadapted to be detachably connected at one end to buttons or the like on :the garment and provided at. their other ends with means whereby they may be detachably secured together, each of said bands consisting of tWo portions, one a portion of elastic material-having a free end to which is attached a loop or loops,-and the other a portion of non-elastic material, said two portions being connected together by means of an intermediate transverse strip of non-elastic materiali V 2.
