Description

K D. vERTl TROUSERS Sept. 16, 1947.
Filed Aug. 22, 1945 INVENTOR: mnemco Vern ATTORNEYS Patented Sept. 16, 1947 UNED STATES PATENT OFFICE TROUSERS Domenico Verti, Astoria, Long Island, N. Y.
Application August 22, 1945, Serial No. 611,949
3 Claims.
This invention relates to trousers and similar garments, and has particular relation to an improved waist construction therefor, and improved means for adjusting the size of said waist portion. The invention herein may be applied to trousers, slacks, skirts, shorts, ski pants or trousers.
The main object of my present invention is to provide means adapted to make take-in or let-out adjustments both at the front and/ or side and rear, in a satisfactory manner with regard to the drape, hang, style and balance of the garment. Other objects and the advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following specification and claims and the appended drawing which show by way of example a preferred embodiment of my invention, and in which Fig, 1 is a perspective rear View and Fig. 2 a perspective front view of a pair of trousers, embodying my invention, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional View of the trousers shown in Figs. 1 and 2 along line 3-3 in Fig, 2.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the ends I' and 2 of th'e back belt sections I and 2 are secured, for example, by stitching, to the inner folds 3 and 4 of front pleats 3 and A, respectively. These belt sections I and 2 pass on the inside of the garment to the openings or slits 6 and l, respectively, provided at the same seams. After passing through said openings, said belt sections are passed on the outside around the sides to the back through loops 8, 8 provided on the back of the trousers. The rear end of one of the back belt sections I is provided with a buckle 9, through which the end portion of the other back belt section 2 is passed, and by means of which take-in or let-out adjustments at side and rear can be made. The end of back belt section 2, after being passed through buckle 9, is passed through a loop I on back belt section E.
The ends of front belt sections I I and I'2 come from the side seams and are stitched to the outside of the garment all the Way to the crease bights 5, as shown in Fig. 2. I have found that this belt length and stitching give Very satisfactory support to the hang of the trousers. The end portion of front belt section Il is provided with a plurality of holes I3, While a buckle I4 is carried by the end of front belt section I2, front belt sections II and I2 being thus adapted to be joined and form a double-action, take-in or letout, front belt.
As illustrated in the drawings and the above description, in the garment embodying my present invention take-in or let-out adjustments can be made both at the front and/or side or rear,
and this division of take-in or let-out between the front and rear points is essential to the drape, hang, style -and balance of the garment. The back belt sections I and 2 going from inner folds 3 and 4' of front pleats 3 and 4 through the openings 6 and 'I arranged at th'e side seams, to back, together with the front belt sections II and I2 give arm all around support and the appearance of a continuous belt.
The front and back belt sections may be made of any suitable material, but I prefer to use cloth belts made of the same material as the garment. The trousers or theJike can be made to be worn with or without Suspenders.
It will be understood that my invention is not rectricted to the specic details shown in the above description and the drawings, and may be carried out in specific ways other than those herein set forth. The embodiments shown should be, therefore, considered as illustrative and not restrictive within the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
While I have shown two front pleats, four pleats or any desired number may be employed, according to the style of garment desired.
With my improved construction, it is very simple and economical to make adjustments to the waist portion of th'e garment embodying the invention herein.
What I claim is:
1. Trousers and similar garments having leg portions with front creases therein, a waist-portion having two or more front pleats, a rst adjusting means extending along the outer frontside of the waist-portion and consisting of two belt sections, one end of each of which is fastened at a side seam of said waist portion and to the outer fold of a pleat, the other ends of said sections being adapted to be adjustably joined on the front side of the waist portion, and a second adjusting means extending along the outer sides and rear of the waist portion and consisting of two belt sections, one end of each of which is fastened to the inner fold of a pleat, the other ends of these sections being adapted to be adjustably joined on the rear-side of the Waistportion, said rst and second adjusting means giving the appearance of a continuous belt.
2. In combination with trousers and similar garments having leg portions with front creases therein, and a. waist portion having at least two front pleats, a first adjusting means consisting of two strips extending along the outer front side of the waist portion, one end of each of said strips being fastened to the Waist portion at a left and right side seam, while the other ends of the strips are adapted to be adjustably joined on the front side of the waist portion, and a second adjusting means consisting of two strips extending partly on the inside of the front portions and partly on the outer sides and rear portions of the Waist-portion, one end of each of these strips being fastened to an inner fold of a front pleat, each of said strips being 4passed through a slit provided at a side seam, While the other ends of these strips are adapted to be adjustably joined on the rear side of the waist portion, said first and second adjusting means giving the appearance of a continuous belt.
3. In combination with trousers and similar garments having leg-portions withA front creases therein, and a waist-portion having at least two front pleats, a rst adjusting means consisting of two strips extending along the outer front side of the Waist portion, One end of each of said strips being fastened to the Waist portion at a left and right side seam and being stitched to the outside of the garment'l all the way to the crease bight, while the other ends of the strips are adapted to be adjustably joined on the front side of the waist portion, and a second adjusting means consisting of two strips extending partly on the inside of the front portions and partly on the outer sides and rear portions of the waistportion, one end of each of these strips being fastened to an inner fold of a. front pleat, each of said strips being passed through a slit provided at a side seam, While the other ends of these strips are adapted to be adjustably joined on the rear side of the Waist portion, said first and second adjusting means giving the appearance of a continuous belt.
