THE COLUMBIA VLANOGRAPN $0., WASHINGTON D C WILLIAM E. COWLIN'G, OF SIOUX CI'I'Y, IOWA.
nosn-surron'rnn.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
Application filed March 11, 1918. Serial No. 221,831.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM E. CowLINe, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose- Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to hose supporters.
The invention aims to provide an improved mens hose supporter which does not bind the leg or otherwise'discomfort the wearer, which may be readily applied and removed and which is thoroughly eflicient and will not injure the clothing.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention, consisting in the construction combination and novel arrangement of parts, will be fully understood from the following description reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, of which,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the garment as applied to the leg;
Figs. 2 and 3 are opposite side elevations of the same;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged isometric view of the same; and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the connection between the band and the supporting strap, parts being cut away.
Although I have illustrated and hereinafter described the preferred embodiment of the invention, I would not be understood as being limited to the specific structure chosen for illustration, for various alterations and modifications in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the'invention as defined in the appended claims.
I Referring, now, to the illustrations, the embodiment illustrated, consists of an elastic band, 6, adapted to encompass the leg above the calf. The said band is open and one end portion thereof passes through a metal loop 7, and is folded against itself as at 8, and the extreme end is secured to a buckle 9, slidable on the adjacent portion of the band, whereby the length of the band may be readily adjusted. The said end portion of the band preferably overlaps the other end portion, as at 10, and the loop 7, is detachably engaged with a stud 11, suitably secured to the latter portion.
The intermediate portions of the band, 6, and an elastic strap, 12, are slidably connected by a buckle, 13. To prevent contact of the buckle with the leg of the wearer, the said buckle rests against a suitable pad, 14, preferably stitched or otherwise secured, as at 15, to the band. The end portions of the strap 12, depend diagonally from the buckle, 13, passing around to the opposite side of the leg, one end portion being suitably secured to a short strap 15, provided with a button, or stud, 16, adapted to be inserted between the leg and the hose, the said stud being adapted to be engaged together with a bight of the hose by a suitable eyelet 17, secured to the opposite end of the strap 12. To facilitate adjustment of the supporting strap, one end portion slides through a transverse slot, 18 in the eyelet, is folded on the strap and has -its extreme end fastened to a buckle 19,
slidable on the adjacent portion of the strap.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
1. A hose supporter of the type described, including a band adapted to en compass the wearers leg, a second member havin depending end-portions adapted to extend diagonally with respect to the leg, means for fastening said end-portions together, means for slidably effecting the connection of said band and second member at their intermediate portion together conjointly, and meanscooperative with said intermediate portions comprising an imperforate member adapted to guard the leg from contact with the connecting means between the intermediate portions of said band and second member.
2. A hose-supporter of the type described, including a band adapted to encompass the wearers leg, a second member having depending end-portions adapted to extend diagonally along the leg, means for fastenher, at their intermediate connected poring said end-portions together, means for tions, said guard-member havingsaid band slidably effecting the connecting of said connected thereto. 10 band and second member together, con- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set 5 jointly at their intermediate portions commy hand this 5th day of March, 1918.
prising a guard-member adapted to be interposed between said band and second mem- WILLIAM E. COWLING.
