MINNIE G. TOWNS, OE WILLARD, TEXAS.
ABDOMINAL SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 17, 1907.
Application filed December 11,1906. Serial No. 347,329.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MINNIE O. Towns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Willard, in the county of Trinity and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Abdominal Support, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to abdominal supports and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a support comprising an abdominal band 'or belt with means of taking up or letting same out. Leggings are sewed to the front of the said band and are connected at their upper rear edge with the rear portion of the band. The upper inner edges of the said leggings are provided with elastic gussets which are adapted to hold the said legging in close contact with the legs oi the wearer and thereby prevent the abdominal band from riding up and avoiding the use of uncomfortable and inconvenient breeching.
Means is provided for taking up or letting out the circumference of the leggings and also the inner upper edges of the said leggings are cut away and posterior receiving space is thereby afforded.
In the accompanying drawingse-Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the abdominal support, and Fig. 2 is a rear perspective View of the same.
The support comprises the abdomen band or belt 1 which is made up of the front section 2 and the back section 3. The section 3 is substantially rectangular while the section 2 gradually increases in breadth from its ends toward its middle, the increase in material occurring in the lower portion thereof. The elastic straps 4, 4 secure the end portions of the sections 2 and 3 together and the ends of the said sections overlap with the ends of the section 3 lying underneath. The section 3 is provided with the substantially vertically extending stays 5 while the section 2 is provided with the substantially vertically extending stays 6 and the obliquely extending stays 7. The said stays are preferably of whale bone or other similar flexible substance.
The tapes 8, 8 secure the rear upper edges of the leggings 9 to the section 3 while the upper front edges of the said leggings are sewed to the lower edge of the section 2 at the end portions thereof. The ends of the leggings 9 are secured together by the tapes 10 and the said ends are also provided with the substantially vertically extending strengthening tapes 11 sewed to the outer surfaces thereof.
The tapes 12 support the inner ends of the leggings 9 from the lower portion of the section 2. The inner opposite upper edges of the leggings 9 are provided with the elastic gussets 13 13, which are so positioned upon the said edge as to permit the leggings 9 to be bound tight around the legs of the wearer and at the same time afford sufficient elasticity to permit the wearer to assume sitting or stooping posture without inconvenience. Also the said gussets enable the legging'to bind the limbs sufficiently tight to prevent the abdominal band from riding up and avoiding the necessity of intermediate straps or breeching.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent is An abdominal support comprising a band composed of anterior and posterior sections adjustably connected together, leggings fixed at their upper edges to the lower edge of the anterior section, said leggings having elastic gusscts in their upper edges and means adjnstably connecting' said leggings with the posterior section.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
