ABDOMINAL SUPPORT.
Application filed April 5, 1916. Serial No. 89,119.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Innnn ALLISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVaynesburg, in the county of Greene and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an abdominal support and one of its objects is the provision of a device of this character, which shall be simple, durable and eflicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Another object of this invention is to provide a body portion, having its lower edge curved downwardly from each end toward the transverse center thereof, to efficiently support and cover the abdomen of the user and which will extend downwardly thereon sufficiently to engage and support the abdomen.
A still further object of this invention is to provide thigh attaching strapswhich are secured to the lower edge of the body portion upon each side of the transverse center and adjacent thereto, which will efiiciently hold the lower edge of the body portion into tight engagement with the body of a person and prevent same from moving out of place.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described andclaimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of an abdominal supporter, constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a body portion constructed of double material being stitched Specification of LettersPatent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
together along the edges thereof, having waist attaching straps 2 which are constructed of suitable material and are secured at their broader ends to the body portion 1 at the ends thereof." The'ends of the body portion 1 and the ends of the straps 2 which are inserted within the ends of the body portion are stitched together as illustrated at 3, which will secure the straps 2 to the ends of the body portion 1 and also will hold the pieces of material of the body portion 1 and straps together at the ends there of. The body portion 1 is provided with its lower edge curved downwardly from each end thereof toward the transverse center to efliciently support the abdomen and extend downwardly to engage the under portion of the latter and support the same.
Secured to the lower curved edges of the body portion 1 are thigh straps 4 at a point upon each side of the transverse center and adjacent thereto, to firmly hold the lower curved edge of the body portion 1 against the bladder. The body portion 1 is provided with its upper edge curved downwardly from each end in the direction of the transverse center to allow free movement of the users waist and which will not bind or cut into the waist when the user bends over. s
A pair of vertically extending stay strips 5 are secured to the body portion 1 upon each side of the transverse center, by strips of cloth 6, to prevent the body portion 1 from creasing or becoming disarranged upon the abdomen. The stay strips 5 being arranged upon each side of the transverse center of the body portion will allow the body portion to fit smoothly upon the ab domen and will easily conform thereto when applied.
In applying the device to a person, the body portion 1 is placed upon the abdomen and the waist attaching straps 2 are passed around the waist and secured together by any suitable means, such as a safety pin, which will efficiently support the body portion and will support the back of theuser. The thigh straps 4 are then passed about the thighs and secured to the straps 2, which will firmly hold the lower edge of the body portion 1 to the abdomen and elliciently support same.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is In a device of the character described, a substantially triangularly shaped body conforming substantially to the lower portion of the abdomen so as to fit snugly beneath and about the same, upwardly diverging relatively narrow attaching straps secured copies of this patent may be obtained for to said body adjacent the ends thereof, the vertex of the body being directed doWn Wardly, and downwardly diverging thigh straps secured to the body at the lower edge thereof and at each side of the vertex of said body.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of tw witnesses.
