A TTORNE Y WALTER R. HOLSEY, OF GORSICAINA, TEXAS.
KNEE-PAD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 4;, 1919.
Application filed September 10, 1917. Serial N 0. 190,423.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER R. HoLsn-Y, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corsicana, in the county of Navarro and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knee-Pads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a knee pad or rest for berry or cotton pickers or for other workers who are obliged to remain in a kneeling position and in such connection it relates more particularly to the arrangement and construction of such a pad or rest.
In devices of this character it is desirable that there be few parts, that there be only such metal parts in the construction as are necessary to secure the yielding support for the knee and that the parts be strong and of simple construction to insure cheapness as well as durability for the device.
All of these desirable features are attained by providing a knee pad or rest consisting of a frame constructed ofone piece of spring wire of rather coarse gage, aroller revolubly attached to the front end of the frame, and cloth or canvas stretched across the frame to form a rest or pad for the knee of the wearer. This cloth or canvas or other textile material being subject to wearand tear is readily removable from the frame or fastening means which secures the cloth or canvas to the leg of the wearerl The nature and scope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which 7 Figure 1 is a perspective view of myknee pad embodying the main features of my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Referring to the drawings 1 represents the frame of wire of relatively coarse gage, and this frame is of rectangular shape on the top, the wire constituting the frame'being preferably in one piece. The forward-end of this frame is bent downwardly at right angles and then bent inwardly, the two ends approaching each other to form a rod or eral movement to the knee pad. The wire of this frame is preferably spring steel and the roller can be put on or taken off by drawing the forward ends apart. 4 represents the canvas or cloth which is folded over the top part of the frame 1 and stitched along the wire as shown in Fig. 1. 5 shows the forward end of the canvas covering which is brought upward a short distance to partly inclose the knee of the wearer and on the top of this canvas is secured a strap 6 preferably of leather. This strap has a buckle 7 or similar fastening means to secure the strap around the thigh of the wearer. Another strap 8,ialso preferably of leather, is attached by stitching to the rear edge of the canvas covering 4 and is provided with a buckle 9 to firmly engage and hold the strap around the leg of the wearer.
In operation the roller 2 turns as the wearer moves along the ground and it is necessary to raise this roller only slightly from the ground and part of the wearers weight may rest thereon, which obviates lifting the knee entirely from the ground at each forward movement as in the old devices of this ward end then inwardly to form a rod, the
body of the frame bent at the rear to form a half circle to rock laterally on the ground, a'cloth partly covering the frame to form a pad and a roller revolving on the rod at the front end of said frame.
In testimony whereof I have signed my 'name to this specification.
WALTER R. HOLSEY.
