WITNESSES INVENTORS MOSES MILLER AND JACOB BLIDEN, OF BALTIMORE,.MABYLAND.
GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J uly 2', 1912.
Application filed December 12, 1911. Serial No. 665,250.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Mosns MILLER and JAooB BLIDEN, citizens of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have -invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garments, and especially to nether garments which are usually supplied with waist bands. In such garments it has been usual, where separate belts are to be used, to attach a series of vertically disposed loops at intervals entirely around the waistband through which the separate belt may be strung when desired for use and when the separate belt was not in use it was removed from the loops and stored away where it might or might not be found when again desired for invention consists in the improved garment,
the construction, arrangement and combination of the parts of which will be hereinafter fully described and afterward specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated an embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the waist portion of a nether garment equipped with this invention, the belt being fastened at the front as when in use; Fig. 2 represents a similar view, the beltbeing stored away and out of use, part of the front of the waistband being broken away; and Fig. 3 represents a vertical sectional view on the plane indicated by the broken line 33 of Like reference characters denote the same parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
Referring specifically to the drawings 1- indicates the front and 2 the rear of a nether garment such as pants, drawers, or skirts and 3 the waistband attached to the upper edge thereof, the garment being illustrated as opening at the front, one end 4 of the waistband overlapping the other end 5 in se. The object of the present invention is to the usual manner and being adapted to be secured together by any ordinary means such as buttons and button holes, (not shown). The waistband may be provided with the ordinary vertical belt loops 6 on the outside of the front half only, or may also be provided with such loops on the rear ha-lf also if desired, as shown at 6 in Fig. 3.
At 7 is indicated a belt of any suitable material preferably some textile material such as canvas, or the same goods as the garment is made of, which belt is sewed or otherwise secured permanently to the u per rear edge as between the points 8 and 9, ffom which points to the front ends, said belt-is free from the garment, one end 10 terminating at the end 5 of the waistband and the.
other end 11 extending beyond the overlapped ends of the waistband and overlapping the end 10, so that the ends 10 and 11 may be secured together by any suitable fastoners, as at12, the front portions of the belt passing through the loops 6 in the usual manner.
Inside of the waistband 3 is a strip of material, as at 13, secured at its lower edge, as at 14, to the lower edge of the waistband, or it may be Secured to the arment below the waistband, said strip being free at its upper edge forming an inside pocket 15 with its opening at the top edge of the waistband. The pocket may be held closed by any suitable fasteners, such as hooks and eyes or the like, as shownat 16.
When the belt is to be used it will appear as in Fig. 1, the rear half being secured at on its upperedge as a hinge and folded in the pocket 15, after which the pocket will be secured closed by fasteners 16, when the belt will be out of sight and its presence unsuspected, while being at hand, ready for use at any time. in the pocket, a detached belt of leather or of textlle or other material may be passed through the loops 6, 6, and used in the usual manner, the stored belt in nowise interfering with its use.
Slight changes or variations in the construction and location of the various parts may be made without departing from the When the belt is stowed away spirit and scope of the invention as hereinf 7 opening around the garment at the'upper waistband, and a belt secured for substanprovided with a waistband, a strip of mate?- after claimed.
1. A nether garment provided with} a waistband, and a stri of material inside of the waistband of substantially the width thereof, and secured to the garment at its lower edge, forming a pocket opening around the garment at the upper edge of the tially the rear-half of its length at its upper edge to the upper edge of said waistband, whereby it is adapted to be folded over onits upper edge into said pocket and:st0red therein when not in use, substantially-as described.
.2. The combination in a nether garment rial inside of the waistband of substantially the 'width thereof, and secured to the gar- I or securing the said pocket closed.
ment at its lower edge, forming ajlpocket edge of the waistband, and a belt secured su stantially the rear half of its length at its u per edge to the upper edge of said waistband, whereby it is adapted to be folded over on its upper edge into said pocket and stored therein when out of use, and vfas teners secured at the upper edges of the Havingus fully described the invention, what is c aimed as new is waistband and of the strip to secure the pocket closed, substantially as described.
