Description

N0. 887,450. PATENTED MAY 12, 1908, W. S. WOOTTON. SHIRT SUSPENSORY.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 22. 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. WOOTTON, ()F ROANOKE, VIRGINIA.
SHIRT-SUSPENSORY.
Patented May 12, 1908. 1907. Serial No. 384,907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. l/voorrim, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roanoke, in the county .of Roanoke and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt-Suspenseries, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in shir -suspensories, or, more particularly, a combined shirt and suspensory, an ordinary undershirt being provided at its lower front portion with means whereby this portion of the shirt may be gathered about to snugly embrace the scrotum, forming a suspensorybag or pouch, and provided with retaining means about the bodyof the shirt, all the parts being constructed, arranged, and combined in such a manner as to provide a generally-improved adjustable suspcnsin'y which may be worn without the usual inconveniences incident to the wearing of an ordinary detached strap suspensory Further objects and advantages will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I, represents a shirt-suspensory, embodying my invention, as it appears preparatory to being placed on the bod of the wearer. Fig. II, a front elevation of the same as it ap ears upon the body of the wearer. Fig. FII, a side view of the same. Fig. IV, a side view of a modified form of the same in use as a hose-supporter.
Similar characters of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.
The improved shirt-suspensory comprises a shirt 1 which may be of the usual construction, the shirt, however being of such length that the lower portion 1, will extend below the hips of the wearer, as shown in Figs. II, III, and IV, of the drawings.
The lower front portion is provided with a vertical slot-opening 2, adapted to receive the male member and provided about its edges with a finishing binding-strip or band 3. The lower front portion or edge of the shirt, beneath the slot-opening 2, is adapted to be gathered about the scrotum, forming the suspensory-bag or pouch 4, as shown in Figs. II, III, and IV, by means of a strip or cord 5, secured in any suitable and convenient manner that will effect a gathering of said lower front portion of the shirt, but,
I preferably, by n'lcans of a horizontal strip or I cord of material 6,'securcd thereto at suitable intervals by means of stitchings 6, forming a plurality of cord-openings 6", the middle or intermediate portion of said cord or strap passing about said strip or cord 6, and through the said openings 6*, intermediate said stitchy The remaining portions of the strap or cord 5, are passed between the legs from front to rear and thence upwardly and forwardly over and about the thighs, through the dcpending ring or loop-eyes 7, of the cord-supporting hip-straps or cords 8, secured to the sides of the shirt, and thence about the abdomen, being drawn as tightly as experience l and comfort may dictate and secured at its ends by means of anysuitable and convenient loop-knot, as i). If desired, the ends of the strap or cord 5, after passing through the ring or loop-eyes 7, may extend downwardly along the legs of the wearer and be secured to a yoke-strap or cord 10, or other fastening, secured to the top of the hosiery 11, to su port the latter, as shown in Fig. IV, of the drawings.
From the foregoing (lCSCl'lPblOII, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I provide an exceedingly simple, cheap and ellicient suspcnsory of great comfort and convenience to the wearer, which may be readily and conveniently adjusted to meet all forms and conditions, and which is free from the many objections incident to the use of the ordinary strap suspensory, particularly the chafing of the skin from the direct contact of the attachingstr: )s, and parts, and their disarrangcmcnt whil e being worn.
Having thus described my invention, without having attempted to set forth all the forms in which it may be made, or all the modes of its use, I declare that what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. A shirt-suspcnsory, comprising a shirt provided with a slot-opening and a cord secured at intervals along the edge of the shirt beneath said slot-opening forming a suspensory-bag intermediate said edge and slot opening.
2. A sliirt-suspcnsory, comprising a shirtbody having its lower front portion provided with a slot-opening and a gathering-strap or cord secured along the lower edge of said front portion 'forn'iing a suspensory-bag or pouch 1 beneath said slot-opening from the material of said front portion intermediate said lower edge and said slot-opening.
3. A shirt-suspensory, comprising a shirt provided at its lower front portion with a slot-opening, a cord secured at gathering intervals along the edge of the shirt forming a pouch from the material beneath said slotopening, and cord supporting hip-straps at the sides of said shirt.
l. A shirt-suspensory, com rising a shir provided at its front with a s ot-opening, a cord secured at its intermediate portion in gathering intervals beneath said slot-opening forming a suspensory-bag from the material I between said intermediate portion of the cord and said slot-opening, and cord receiving loops formed by hip-straps at the side of said shirt.
5. A shirt-suspensory, comprising a shirt provided at its front with a vertical slotopening, cord-supporting hip-straps secured to the sides of said shirt above the horizontal plane of said slot-opening, and a cord secured at its intermediate portion in gathering intervals to said shirt forming a suspensorybag or pouch from the gathered portion of said shirt below said slot-opening and extending rearwardly between the legs of the wearer and upwardly and forwardly over the thighs and through said hip-straps.
6. In a shirt-suspensory, the combination with a shirt-body provided at its front with a slot-opening and at its sides with hip-straps of a horizontal strap or cord secured at intervals to the lower edge of said shirt beneath said slotopening and affording cord-openings, and a cord having its intermediate portion passing about said horizontal strip or cord and through said cord-openings.
7. In a shirt-suspensory, a shirt provided at its front with a vertical slot-opening, a horizontal cord beneath said slot-opening and secured at intervals to the lower edge of said shirt affording a plurality of cord-openings, and a cord or strap passing through said cord-openings whereby the intermediate material of the shirt may be gathered forming a suspensory-bag communicating with said slot-opening.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
