T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Jnssrn H. BANoRorT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and ImprovedGarmentfiiipporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to garment supporters, especially hose supporters for use by adults and children, and has reference more particularly to a device of this class which comprises two operatively associated members arranged to encompass the body, and each having means for attachment to a stocking or other garment to support the same.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple,inexpensive and eflicient garment supporter, which is compact in form andv light in weight, and which can be worn with ease and comfort, which can be very readily put on and removed.

V The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the lower portion of a human body, showing an embodiment of my invention worn thereby; Fig. 2 is a side view of the body showing the device in place; and Fig. 3 is a rear View of the body showing the garment supporter in use.

Before proceeding to a more detailed de scription of my invention it should be clearly understood that one of the prime and important purposes of the present invention is to insure that the weight of the supported garment is properly borne by thebody of the wearer of the device, and that as a result the wearer tends to assume a normal erect posture. This is of great importance, particularly with growing children, and the garment supporter will be found of great advantage for this use.

i However, the device can also be successfully employed by adults, particularly by women. The two bands or members which form the supporter may be fashioned of any material adapted for the purpose, preferably a fabric, and they may be partly or wholly extensible. In using the term extensible hereafter when referring to the bands it does not mean that the bands in their entirety are made of elastic material, elastic sections thereof answering the same purpose.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I employ two elongated bands or members 10, provided at the rear ends with an attachment 11, such, for example, as a hook and eye or other suitable device. The bands as illustrated consist for portions of their length of two strips 12, connected by means of cross strips 13 sewed or otherwise attached thereto. However, if so desired, the bands may consist of single elements of greater or lesser width, depending on individual preference or special conditions. The bands extend from the back of the user, forwardly and downwardly, around the body over the hips and across the abdomen, intersecting or crossing at a point 14 substantially central with respect to the body. At their crossing they are suitably attached together by sewing or any other means. Beyond the crossing point each band is extended in a single width 16 downwardly to the opposite side of the body, and thence in length 17 upwardly and rearwardlv to the back of the body, each band at the back being secured by sewing or any other suitablie manner to the other band near its rear en At the lowest points. that is, at the junction of the lengths 16 and 17. each band is provided with a downwardly extending strap 18, sewed or otherwise secured thereto. This strap may be provided with a buckle 19 which permits it to be lengthened or shortened, and has at the lower end a grip 20 for attachment to a stocking or other garment to be supported.

It will be noted that'the lengths 16 and 17 form unequal branches of a V on each side of the waist band, with garment securing means at the apex of each V.

It will be understood that the garment supporter can be very readily removed from the body by unfastening the connection 11 and drawing the separated members forwardlv from the body after the grips 20 have been released. Conversely, it can be very easily placed in position on the body and easily and expeditiously secured in lace. It will be readily understood from an inspection of Figs. 1 and 2 that the weight is carried mainly at the back and sides of the body, and that there is no pull downward on the shoulders or the waist itself. Furthermore, there is a downward and rearward pull at the front of the support which causes an inward pressure upon the abdominal region. This action is of great physiological value in that it corrects any tendency to ptosis of the abdominal and pelvic viscera.
