Description

T. AMENDOLA.
TRUSS.
APPLIUATION FILED MAR. 31,1910.
Patented Dec. 9, 19 13 wi/bvwowf ill till
THUMAfi AMENIDOLA, OF PA'WTU'CKET, RHODE ISLAND.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, 'lluoams Aamunonx, a citizen of Italy, residing at Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of lthode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trusses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trusses for the treatment of abdominal hernia, and it'has for its object to produce a device of this class which shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, durability and general efficiency and which may be applied and Worn without discomfort.
A'further. object of the invention is to combine with the truss pad. proper a suspensory bandage or support for the scrotum of simple and improved construction.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same c011- sists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts whichwill be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings has been illustrateda simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the invention may be resorted to when desired.
in the drawing the single figure is a per: spective view showing the improved truss complete. -'ltlie truss pad proper it, while complete 111 itself, may be regarded as being composed of twin bulbs 1, 1 adapted to engage the two sides of the abdomen. The padrt is pro- .vided with eyelets 2, 2 and with attaching members such as buckles 3, 3 which are secured upon the faces of the bulbs 1, 1 and with downwardly extending flaps 4., t, the latter being also provided with buckles 5, 5. The pad A is'preferably made soft leather, the bulbs 1 being formed by the introduction of suitable stuffing material, and each of said bulbs is provided with a loop 6 likewise made of soft leather, the ends of the loop members being inserted through slits in the material of the pad and specification of Zhetters Patent. Application filed March 31, 1910.

joined together in rear of the front portion of the pad. Leg straps B, 13, preferably ineluding elastic portions 7 are suitably connected with the buckles 3 and 5 at either side of the pad. C designates a. back pad with which straps 8 are detachably connected by means of buckles 9, said straps prefe ably including elastic portions. The forward ends of the straps 8, which latter combine with the back pad to form. a belt, are provided with terminal thongs 9 of chamois soft leather, said thongs being inserted through the eyelets 2 of. the pad A and tie together to form a bow knot 10 in front of said pad A. This-manner of constructing and connecting the parts is ere tremely simple and convenient, and it onables theb'elt to be tightened or loosened, as may be required to promote the comfort of the wearer in a very convenient and satisfactory manner.
The suspensory attachment which is usedx in connection with this device is constructed throughout of soft leather, and it includes a band 11 and a bottom piece, hieh latter 1s in the form of a cross having arms 12 and 13 which are terminally connected with the band, as by stitching 1d, the arms 13' being extended longitudinally and reduced in width to form thongs 17, which, after passing through the loops 6, are joined together to form a bow knot 18 which may be loosened or tighten-ed, according to the necessh tics of the wearer of the truss.
As will be seen from the foregoing description, l have provided a device of extremely simple; and efficient construction, the parts of which are capable of being very easily and quickly adjusted to promote the comfort of the wearer. The device intended not only for the relief but also for the prevention ofabdominal hernia, and it may be worn with decided advantage and comfort by the well as well as by those who are alllicted with rupture of the abdomen.
Having thus described the invention, what claimed as new, is 5- Ina device of the character described, the combination with a front pad, of a waist encircliiig belt supporting the'same, said belt having ends projecting through the body of or other very Y the pad and joined together in front thereof. In testimony whereof I affix my signature said pad being also provided with two dein presence of two Witnesses. pending tabs, and leg-encircling straps, each THOMAS AMENDOLA. of said straps being detachebly connected at Wvltnesses:
one end with one of said tabs and at the ARTHUR A. CAPWELL other end with the front face of the pad. WILLIAM E. JARVIS.
