VI.,-WASSIERIVUNI. `COMBINED GATAMBNIAL SAGK AND ABDo MINAL SUPPORTERl yPatented Nov. 21, 1882 uli WITNESSES ATTORNEY N. PETERS, Pnmumngnpher. wan-iugm". llc.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
IGNATIUS WASSERMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED CATAMENIAL SACK ANDA ABDOMINAL SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 267,956, dated November 21, 1882.
Application led July 27, 1882. (No model.) l
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, IeNA'rIUs WAssERMAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catamenial Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a catamenial device which, while combining the properties of lightness, elasticity, and detachability, shall be comfortable and convenient to the wearer.
The invention consists of a catamenial bandage, the body of which is composed of netting and provided with an elastic waist-strap at the top, elastic thigh-straps at the lower corners, aback-strap connecting the lower edge of the body atthe center with the waistband, and a flexible absorbent-pad detachably connected to the lower part ot' the netted body.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents my improved catamenial bandage in position for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the same; and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail front view and a section of the absorbent-pad, showing its connection with the netted body.
Similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding parts.
A in the drawings represents the main portion or body-of my improved catamenial bandage, said body being composed of light open elastic netting, adapted to cover the abdomen and support the absorbent-pad B. The pad B is composed of wool,.cotton, or other suitav ble absorbent material, and provided with a water-proof backing, which'servesV to protect the clothing of the wearer. An elastic waiststrap, C, is ru'n through the top meshes orV loops of the body A, and provided at its meeting ends with a suitable fastening device. Elastiethigh-strztlisl) are attached to the lower corners ofthe body A, the outer ends of said can be readily replaced by a fresh pad. A
short central front strap, F, is connected at both end-s to the netted body, and passes transversely across the pad, serving to strengthen the former and as arest for the latter.
The weight of this bandage is evenly distributed. The bandage is open and of an elastic character, and contributes greatly to the comfort of the wearer.
I am aware that supporters of knitted material are well known 5 also supporters or bandages provided with a back-strap passing from the front part of the supporter, between the legs, to `the back part of the same, and I therefore do not lay any claim to these fea-` tures. l
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of an open elastic body,A, composed of netting, aA waistband, C, at the top thereof, thigh-bands D at the lower corners, a back-strap, E, and a detachable absorbentpad, B, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as Inyinvention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing-witnesses. r y
