UNITED v STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAMELIA M. BOLEMAN, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
CATAM EN lAL SACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,882, dated December 4, 1888. Application filed September 3, 1888. Serial No. 284,866. (Modeh) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAMELIA M. BOLEMAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved (latamenial Sack, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a shield-garment to be worn by women during the menstrual period; and it consists in the parts which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is'to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure represents a perspective view of the invention.
The shield or sack proper consists 011": an outeror under cloth, A, having an inner rubv ber cloth or waterproof, B, of similar shape,
parts A B by means of stitching B secured to its upper side by edge-stitching, the side edges, 15,- of the under cloth being folded over the edge of the upper cloth and secured by a line of stitches, B Each side of the sack is provided with aline of stitches,
. O C, lying inside of and parallel with the edge stitches, B The stitches (I pass through the cloth A B, whereby a longitudinal pocket is formed on each side of the sack for the reception of elastic bands Done in each pocket. The drawing shows one side of the upper cloth broken away, so as to disclose the band D. Each end of the band D is secured to the two There are two elastic cross-straps, E E, which have their respective ends secured to the rubber cloth B atA inside of the longitudinal bands D. Only one of the straps E is shown. The other occupies the same relative position on the opposite end of the sack. A removable pad, E, lies on the upper side of the rubber cloth B, and said pad is held in position by the cross-straps E E. Each rear corner of the sack is provided with a strap, F, having an end buckle, F, and each forward corner of said sack is provided with a strap, G, for engaging the buckles F F,respectively. The forward en d of the sack is provided with converging branch straps H H, whose outer ends are provided with buckles l I, respectively. The rear side of the sack is also provided with two converging straps, J J, the outer end of each being provided with a buckle, A waistband, K, is provided with a buckle, K, and
also provided with four downwardly-extend-' ing straps, M N-two in front and two behind. These straps are adapted to engage the buckles I J, respectively. A front pad,'O, has its sides secured by suitable stitching to the straps M, and a back pad, P, has its ends secured in a like manner to the straps N, respectively.
The operation is as follows: The band K is secured around the waist, and the sack suspended therefrom by means of the straps M N and H J. The desired adjustment of the parts is effected by means of the buckles. The straps F G are secured by buckles around the lower limbs. The sides of the sack are contracted or shirred, as shown, by means of the elastic bands D. This shirred feature holds the sides of the sack snugly against the limbs of the wearer, while the straps F G serve to hold the ends of the sack upward in a curved position, as shown. The pad E is made of an absorbent material, and may be removed when desired.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as i'iew and desire to secure by Letters Patent A catam enial sack consisting of a bed y portion having shirred edges, a waistband, straps connecting the waistband to the body portion, pads secured to the connecting-straps, and limb-straps secured to the rear and forward corners of the body portion, substantially as herein shown and described.
