SANITARY PROTECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED MAYIO, 191s.

ELMA N. DEHNE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SANITARY PROTECTOR.
Application filed May 10, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELMA. N. DEHNE, acitizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved sanitary protector for the use of Women particularly during the menstrual period and the invention comprises a protector having a body portion the ends bf which are adapted to extend upwardly over the abdomen and over the hips and provided with means for attaching a napkin and for supporting the article from the Waist and additionally with marginal shield portions connected to the body and which are of such length'as to extend downwardly between the legs and of such width as to extend around the legs to such a distance as to thoroughly protect the clothing from soiling.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is a front elevation; Fig; 2 is a side elevation showing the device in application; and F igI '3 is a plan view of the article from the inner side.
In the drawings 4 represents the body of the device which is generally triangular in form and of such length that the narrow end extends at the front over the lower portion of the abdomen and the wider end extends upwardly and outwardly over the hips and well'up along the spine. The central portion of the body is of such a width to pro-- vide a sufiicient fullness between the limbs to be comfortable. The body portion is provided with the usual tabs 5, 6, for the purpose of attaching a napkin; To this body portion is connected tabs 7 having studs 8 to which are attached the ends of elastic tapes 9 doubled at their ends and provided with clasps 9*. The tapes are thus made adjustable and r are passed through openings or loops 10 ofthe. straps 11 the latter being supported from the belt 12 which is preferably made adjustable and provided with suitable fastenings. Along the side margins of the body portion are attached the marginal sections or shield portions 13 the junction of these parts being on substantially straight converging lines; The

it may be readily applied and is also of such construction that by loosening the clasp 9 in the elastics' 9 the rear portion may be drawn down for toilet purposes and need not be entirely removed for changing the napkin. The construction is such that it is comfortable to the wearer'and affords complete protection at all times and is readily adjustable and therefore can be adapted to be worn by persons of various figures or sizes. The device is also useful in preventing chafing between the limbs.
' While the material used may be varied I prefer to make the entire body and shield portions of a thin flexible and waterproof material such as rubberized cloth, although pure sheet rubber or rubber coated fabrics may be used and the article may be lined or covered on the external surface with. silk or other fabric,
I claim:
A sanitary protector for the purpose specified consisting of an oblong tapering body, tabs at the corners of the smaller end of the body, adjustable tapes at the corners of the larger endof the body, complemental fastenings at the ends of the tapes and tabs for detachably connecting them, marginal shields attached to the longitudinal edges of the body, adjustable straps secured to one of the end portions of the shields, coacting fastenings at the opposite, ends of the shieldsandstraps, napkin tabs upon the inner side of the body near opposite ends thereof, a waist belt, and straps slidably supported upon the belt and slidably engaging the tapes at the wider end of the ELMA N. DEHNE.
