CATAMENIAL-PAD HOLDER.
Application filed April 19, 1928. Serial 1%. 683,119.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLOMON ROSENBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the. county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Catamenial-Pad Holders, of which the following is a specificatiom My invention relates to a catamenial pad holder, and has for its principal object, the provision of arelat'ively simple device that may be comfortably worn by women during their menstrual period and which device is particularly designed to rcceive and hold a pad-like body of cotton or similar absorbent fibrous material.
Other objects of my invention are, to provide. a catamenial pad holder that will retain its proper position upon the wearer regardless of the position of the latter, whether standing, sitting or lying down, to provide a device of the character referred to that may be readily applied to or removed from the body of the wearer, and further to provide a pad holder that includes a pad-receiving member of rubber or similar moistureproof material and which latter is effective in preventing the menstrual discharge from making contact with and discoloring the clothing of the wearer. A still further object of my invention is, to provide a pad holder that is composed of two main parts that are capable of being readily assembled or taken apart, thereby greatly facilitating the insertion and removal of the absorbent pads and also enabling the parts of the holder to be readily cleansed and maintained in a sanitary condition.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the outer part of my improved pad holder.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the inner part of the pad holder.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the two parts of the holder assembled for use and supporting an absorbent pad, the latter having parts broken away.
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of my improved pad holder associated with a belt and supporting straps,
pad used in In Fig. 5 is an enlarged cross sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a rear elevational view of the improved holder.
My improve padholder includes an outer member 10, that is formed of soft fabric or similar material and said member gradually tapers in width toward its ends, with its front end 11 somewhat wider than its rear end 12.
The central portion of this member between the narrowed ends is substantially channel-shaped in cross section.
Adapted to lie on top of member 10 is the inner member 13 of the holder, said inner member 13 being formed of rubber or similar moistureproof material and gradually tapering in width toward its ends, with the front end somewhat wider than the rear end.
Member 13 is substantially channel shape in cross section and thoroughout its length, its transverse dimensions are slightly less than the corresponding dimensions of outer member 10. Thus when member 13 is prop erly positioned on the outer member 10, the marginal edges of the latter project slightly beyond the corresponding edges of the inner member. 13.
Secured in any suitable manner to the forward end of inner member 13 is a tab 14 of fabric that may be rubberized if desired, and secured to the rear end of said inner member is a similar tab 15.
Tab 14 is detachably secured to the relatively wide front end 11 of outer member 10 in any suitable manner, preferably by complementary members of snap fasteners 16 or buttons and button holes and, with suitable and preferably similar means, the rear tab 15 may be secured to the relatively narrow rear end portion 12 of member 10.
Positioned directly upon member 13 is an absorbent pad composed of an outer member 17 of soft flexible material such as medicated gauze or cheese cloth and which overlies a body 17 of soft fibrous material such as cotton.
Extending transversely across the underside of this pad are narrow straps 17" which, when the pad is properly positioned on member 13, pass beneath the latter as shown in Fig. 5 and when the pad is adjusted upon said member 13, the edges of the fabric 17 overlie. the edges of the member 1 a cons qu n y P e e s i alas from coming into contact with the skin when the device is worn.
Thus the absorbent pad is firmly retained in position upon the holder as the member 13 is wholly enclosed by soft fabric when the parts of the device is assembled for use, there is no chafing or uncomfortable pressure of the edges of the holder upon the skin of the wearer.
The central portion of the pad absorbs all menstrual discharge and the inner member 13 of moistuieproof material serves as a protecting element to prevent dlscoloratlon of the adjacent clothing. I
My improved pad holder is retained in position upon the wearer by front straps 18 and rear straps 19 that depend from a belt or waist encircling member 20.
The rear end of outer member 10 is secured in any suitable manner to the relatively narrow rear end 12 of member 10 and the wider front end 11 of said outer member is connected by readily detachable means such as snap fasteners or button holes to the lower ends of straps 18. This arrangement permits the front end of the holder to be readily detached from the front straps when a pad is to be removed and a fresh pad insorted.
The supporting parts 18, 19 and 20 retain the pad holder in proper position upon the wearer regardless of the position of the latter and as said sup orting parts are formed of material that wi I stretch and yield readily to all movements, they offer no discomfort or resistance While in service.
A catamenial pad holder of my improved construction is comparatively simple, may be easily and cheaply produced and as the moistureproof member of the holder is readily detachably from the outer member, the parts may be readily cleansed and consequently maintained in a wholly sanitary condition.
' It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved catamenial pad holder may be made and substituted for those herein described without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a catamenial pad holder, an outer channel shaped member of soft flexible marseaooo terial and an inner channel shaped pad receiving member of moistureproof material positioned upon said outer'member.
2. In a catamenial pad holder, an outer channel shaped member of soft flexible material, an inner channel shaped pad receiving member of moistureproof material positioned upon said outer member and means carried by said members for detachably COIl' necting their ends to each other.
3. In a catamenial pad holder, an outer channel shaped member of soft flexible material, and an inner channel shaped member of moisturcproof material arranged upon said outer member, an absorbent pad arranged upon said inner inember'and transversely disposed straps arranged on the under side of said pad, which straps pass beneath said inner member.
4. In a catamenial pad holder, an outer channel shaped member of soft flexible material and an inner channel shaped member of moistureproof material arranged upon said outer member, means carried by said members for securing their ends to one another, an absorbent pad arranged upon said inner member and transversely disposed straps arranged on th under side of said pad, which straps pass beneath said inner member.
5. In a catamenial appliance, a supporting member of soft flexible material, a channel shaped member of moistureproof material arranged on said supporting member and an absorbent pad arranged on said channel-shaped member, which supporting member and pad wholly enclose said channelshaped member. 7
6. The combination with a channel-shaped member of moistureproof material, of an absorbent pad arranged on top of said channel-shaped member and straps carried by said pad, which straps pass beneath said channel-shaped member.
7. The combination with a channel-shaped member of moistureproof material, of an absorbent pad arranged on top of said channelshaped member, straps carried by said pad, which straps pass beneath said channelshaped member and a supporting member of fabric for said channel-shaped member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
SOLOMON ROSENBERG.
