This invention relates to asoak pad and it is primarily an object of the invention to provide an article of this kind so constructed that it may be possible to maintain the same in a highly sanitary condition.

Furthermore, it is an objectof the invention to provide Aa .pad of this kind of a character which, when in applied or Work-ing position, will iie y'substantially flat so that it vcan be used with comfort either as a part of a garment or when spread upon a bed or when put to other uses to which it may be applicable.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an article of this kind which comprises two laminations which are adapted to be maintained in overlying relation, one of said laminations being waterproof and the other of absorbent material.

The invention also has for an object to provide an article of this kind provided with means whereby it may be effectively yet detachably applied to a garment, spread or other article, as

the requirements of practice may dictate.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved soak pad whereby certain advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order that my invention may be better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a View in elevation of a night bag for an infant having applied thereto a soak pad constructed in accordance with an embodiment A of the invention;

Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view with portions turned back and in perspective of the pad as comprised in Fig. 1; and

Figure 3 is a detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.

In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the pad comprises a lamination A of suitable absorbent material. This lamination is, of course, of such dimensions as may be preferred and of such thickness as may best be determined by the requirements of practice. This lamination A is, of course, a ready absorbent of moisture and in referring to this lamination A as an absorbent pad, it is to be stated that it is to include a quilted fabric or a fabric of any character or nature possessing the required characteristics.

In the present embodiment of the invention,

Two opposed marginal portions of'tirel lamination A have stitched as at l, orV otherwise secured thereto, the elongated strips v2 of textile fabric or of `such material which is substantially non-stretchabla These strips -2 are herein disclosed as folded on substantially the longitudinal centers thereof so that free longitudinal marginal portions of each of the strips 2 may overlie the adjacent or associated marginal portion of the fabric A.

Each of these strips 2 at the predetermined points thereabove but more particularly at the extremities and at a point substantially midway thereof is provided with fastening elements 3, each of which is adapted to have detachable engagement with a fastening element 4 suitably placed upon the backing article upon which the pad is adapted to be placed. Such backing articles may be the rear portion of a garment such as an infants night dress, a bedspread, or other lamination or sheet generally indicated in the drawings as S.

The inner or free marginal portion of the inner fold a of each of the members 2 is continued therealong with an extended portion 5 which constitutes what may be termed a ila-p.r As is clearly illustrated in the drawings, each of these flaps 5 is of a length coextensive in length with the lamination A.

Each flap 5 at predetermined points therealong but at all times at the extremities thereof and preferably midway of its ends is provided with the fastening elements 6 which have detachable engagement with the fastening element l, carried by opposed marginal portions b of the lamination 8 of rubber or other material impervious to moisture. Each of the marginal portions b is preferably of double thickness although I do not Wish to limit myself in this respect as other means may be provided for maintaining such marginal portions b of the fabric substantially non-stretchable.

The lamination 8 in the present embodiment of the invention is of a length in one direction greater than the similar dimension of the lamination A so that end portions c of the lamination 8 extend beyond the adjacent ends of the lamination A when the latter is superimposed upon lamination 8.

These extended end portions c of the lamination 8 are provided at its opposite extremities and also substantially midway thereof with the fastening elements 9 which are adapted to have detachable engagement with the fastening elements I0 suitably placed upon the sheet or backing article s, to provide means whereby the lamination 8 will be effectively maintained in required position on the sheet S independently of the connection with the associated lamination A.

In view of the foregoing it is believed to be readily apparent that the soak pad as herein embodied is one which can be readily maintained in a highly sanitary condition due to the convenience and facility whereby it may be cleansed. It is also believed to be obvious from the foregoing that the pad is of particular value in view of the simplicity of structure and the saving embodied in its production.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a soak pad constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated.

I claim: Y

In a soak pad for a babys garment, an oblong lamination of a material impervious to moisture, a second lamination of an absorbent material having a width slightly greater and a length slightly less than the width and length of the first lamination, folded binding strips straddled over and secured to each of the longer side edges of both of said laminations, separable fastenings vspaced along the side and end edges of the first lamination for securing it lengthwise across the inner side of the back of the garment, said second lamination being superimposed on the rst lamination, other separable fastenings spaced along Ythe longer side edges of said second lamination REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
