BELT.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 9. 19l8.

Specification of Letters latent.
Patented N ov. 19, 1918.
Application filed May 9, 1918. Serial No. 233,558.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IDA NELSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Eagle Grove, in the county of Humboldt and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Belts, of which the following is a specification.
The principal purpose of the invention is to provide a belt to be worn around the body and beneath the pants, its function being, in addition to supporting the pants, to keep the shirt, such as outing shirts, down in the pants, which the belt worn on the outside of thcpants is incapable of doing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a neat article of manufacture of this character which is simple, durable and cheap.
To the exact construction in which it is shown and described the invention is not to be restricted. The rightis reserved to make such changes or alterations as actual use may suggest, in so far as such suggested changes or alterations are compatible with the spirit of the annexed claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved belt;
Fig. 2 is a detailed sectional view showing the manner in which the device is used.
As shown in the drawings, the belt 1 is made preferably of cotton webbing and has the loops 2 stitched on one side of it at uniformly s aced intervals. The loops are so positione that they stand transversely with respect to the belt so that there may be passed through them the elastic belt 3, of reduced width as compared to the belt 1, the ends of the belt 3 being secured to the ends of the belt 1.
On one end of the belt 1 there is an elastic tongue or extension 4 at the end of which a clasp 5 is attached, the latter engaging the cooperating member 6 carried at the end of a tab secured to the other end of the belt 1. The tongue 4 is provided with the usual take-up slide 7 by means of which extensible adjustment of the former may be had.
The elastic belt 3 has sewed to it in positions where they may conveniently attach to the suspender buttons of the trousers the tabs 7 In the use of the improved belt, it is atta ched around the waist on top of the shirt and the tabs 7 are attached to the suspender buttons of the trousers, as shown in Fig. 2, the shirt being indicated by the numeral 8 and the trousers by the numeral 9. The belt thus operates to keep the shirt downward within the trousers and should the wearer bend over, the elastic belt 3 will yield, thus relieving the trousers buttons of any undue strain.
In the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the invention has been sufficiently set forth to make its use and advantages apparent and further description is, therefore, omitted.
The invention having been described what is new and useful is:
A new article of manufacture comprising an inelastic belt, loops stitched transversely across the said belt at uniformly spaced intervals, an elastic belt whose ends are-secured to the ends of the former belt and which passes loosely through the loops, elastic means for securing the two ends of the first said belt together, and tabs sewed onto the elastic belt for engagement with the suspender buttons of a pair of trousers.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
IDA NELSON.
