Description

Dec. 11, 1928..
J. T. ESKRIDGE SUPPORTER FOR WEARING APPAREL Filed May 16, 1927 INVENTOR J- 7.' Eek/woe:
ATTORNEYS Patented Dec. ll, 1928.
I lT E D TA T E S I JAMES THOMAS ESKRIDGE, OF LA. JARA, COLORADO.
SUPPOB'IER FOR WEARING APPAREL.
App1ication filed May 16,
My invention relates to improvements in devices for supporting wearing apparel, especially hip boots and childrens hose, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed. I
An object of my invention is to provide a supporter which will permit free bodily movement without injury to the clothing and without physical discomfort to the wearer.
A furtherobjec't of the invention. is to provide a supporter which obviates the necessity of the use of rubber elastics that are apt to rapidly deteriorate and which cannot be satisfactorily cleaned. l
A further object is to provide a supporting device which may. be manufactured at a m1ninium cost.
Uther objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of theinvention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which i I Figure 1 is a view of the front portion of the supporter in position on the wearer,
Figure 2 is a rear view of the supporter, Figure 3 is a diagrammatic View showing the position of the supporter on the body when the latter is in a steeping position,
Figure this a fragmentary view of a portion of the device,
Figure 5 is a secti Figure 4:, and v i Figure 6 is a view of a modified form of the device. a
In carrying out my invention, I make use of a non-elastic strap, preferably made of webbing of any suitable fabric, such as cotton or the like. This webbing is formed into two straps 1 and 2, which, as shown in Figure 1, are crossed in front and extend over-the shoulders of the wearer and are then crossed behind the back of the wearer, as shown in Figure 2. 'The straps 1 and 2 are provided with. the usual adjustment buckles 3, by means of which the lengths may be adjusted, one end of each strap being passed through a loop or wire 4c and back to the buckle, as shown in Figure 4. The opposite end of the strap is brought back and is sewed or otherwise secured to its companion end to form a loop. V V A band 5 is provided and the ends of this band are sewed to the ends of the straps 1 on along the line 5-5 of 192?. Seri'aI No. 191,857.
7 this loop 7 is a loop of webbing 8 having at its lower end on the inside thereofa protecting strip 9 of leather or the like. A cord loop 10 I passes through the lower end of the loop 8 and of thestrip 9 and within theloop 8' is provided with a spiral spring covering 11. The outer ends of the loop 10 have a hook 12; It will be understoodthat there are two of these attachment devices, one with the strap 1 and the other with the strap 2.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. In putting on the supporter, the straps are passed over the head and onto the shoulders, as shown in Figuresl and2 and the hooks 12 are passed through the upper side edges of the boots 13. The buckles 3 may be adjusted so as to make the straps the proper length for holding the boot. As will be seen from Figure 3, the wearer may stoop, and in the stooping position the strap 5 prevents the front portions of the straps 1 and 2 from sagging. The arrangement providesa support which will permit the ordinary bodily movements with a minimum of restriction and yet which will not cause the chafing of the body of the wearer. It obviates the necessity of the use oi -rubber in any form, and provides a device which is advantageous from a sanitary point of view.
In Figure 6 I have shown this device as appliedto a hose supporter. In this figure the straps 1 and 2 and theback strap 3' have the same arrangement as in the boot supporter. In this instance, however, elastic hose supporting portions 14 and 15 may be used, having suitable hose gripping members 16.
I claim:
A supporter for wearing apparel, comprising a pair of non-elastic straps, each strap having its ends secured together to form a loop, said loops being crossed in the front and the back of the wearer and the ends of the loops being disposedat the wearers sides, a back band secured to the loop ends, and a logs pendant resilient supporting member secured to the loops at the junction of the back ban-d with the latter. I
JAMESTHOMAS ESKRIDGE.
