2 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to an eXtensible strap and refers more particularly to such a strap suitable as a belt 'for around the waist, or as the strap of a ladys handbag or shoulder-bag.
An object of the present invention is to provide a strap or belt the length of which shall be adjustable to any size and which shall be easy to adjust.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a belt which may be readily adjustable to fit a small size or a large size waistline and, therefore, the storekeeper need not carry a large stock of various size belts.
A further object is that the adjusting hooks and eyelets shall be concealed, in order to present a more finished and pleasing exterior ape pearance.
Still a further object is that the strap shall be easily7 fabricated by ordinary leather working tools and be durable in use.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective front view of a ladys ornamental belt embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a top elevation of the Same.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. l.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the invention applied to a ladys handbag.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the invention applied to a ladys shoulder-bag.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the extensible strap I comprises a buckle II and two elongated, flexible, substantially flat belt members I2, I3, of leather, plastic, cloth or the like respectively connected to and adapted to be engaged by buckle II for being detachably fastened together. The members I2, I3, are adjustably fastened together at their other ends to form a belt I0 as will be more fully described hereinafter. As so fastened together, the belt l0 has an interior surface I4 and an exterior surface I5.
The members I2, I3, at their rear ends, that is, at their ends away from buckle II, are pro vided with loops IB, I1, each of which encompasses or encircles the other respective member. Thus, the loop I of the member I2 encompasses the member I3. which is free to slide therein, and
2 thel loop yl1 of, the member I3 encompasses tri member I 2, which is free to slide therein. At: tached t'o the loop I1 there is a Vsmall hook strap I8 to the end of which there is attached a hook i9 by means of an eyelet 20.
Attached to the interior surface I4 of the member I2 by stitches 2l there is a portion 22 bearing at spaced intervals along its length eyelets 23, 24, 25, 26, 21, each of which is marked with a numeral representing a belt size. When hook I9 is placed in eyelet 24 as shown, belt It] will be a size 28 belt, as shown by the marking adjacent eyelet 24.
A particular advantage of the above construction is that the hook I9 and the eyelets 23 to 21, also the hook strap I8, are all concealed as the belt is worn, being disposed interiorly thereof. As clearly seen from Fig. 2, the rear surface of the belt is interrupted only by the loops I6, I1 which appear to be decorative only.
Fig. 5 shows the invention applied to a ladys handbag 40, the strap 4| having the same general features as the belt Ill, but being fastened to the bag 40 instead of comprising a buckle.
Fig. 6 shows the invention applied to a ladys shoulder-bag 5D, where the adjustable feature is particularly useful in accommodating the strap 5| to the heights of different wearers so that the bag 5I! will appear as a proper article of apparel and be convenient to reach and use.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
l. In a belt formed of a pair of elongated belt members having their adjacent front ends connected together by a buckle and their adjacent rear ends overlapped, means on the inside faces of the belt members for adjustably connecting to'-` gether the overlapped rear ends of the belt members, comprising a loop formed on the rear free end of each of the belt members and through which an intermediate portion of the other belt member slidably extends, a hook strap attached to said loop of the outer of Ithe overlapped rear4 ends and projected longitudinally along the inner face of the inner of the overlapped rear ends, a
r row of spacedeyelets formed along the inner face of the inner of the overlapped rear ends, and a hook mounted on the free end of said hook strap and selectively engageable with one of said eyelets.
2. In a belt formed of a pair of elongated belt members having their adjacent front ends connected together by a buckle and their adjacent rear ends overlapped, means on the inside faces of the belt members for adjustably connecting together the overlapped rear ends of the belt members, comprisinga loop formed on the rear free end of each of the belt members and through which an intermediate portion of the other belt member slidably extends, a hook strap attached to said loop of the outer of the overlapped rear ends and projected longitudinally along the inner face of the inner of the overlapped rear ends, a row of spaced eyelets formed along the inner face of the inner of the overlapped rear ends, and a hook mounted on the free end of said hook strap and selectively engageable with one of said eyelets, said eyelets being arranged in a longitudinal row in a portion stitched to the inside face of the inner of the overlapped rear ends of the belt members.
