A'I'TAGHABLE BRACE AND GARMENT CONNECTOR Filed Sept. 16, 1944 ,I N VEN TOR.
Pau/ A/brecht BY I ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 1, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE ATTACHABLE BRACE AND GARMENT CONNECTOR 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a connector for supporting trousers and undergarments, and for restraining dress or outer shirts from rising, and is used in connection with suspenders and, permits of the wearing of suspenders under the outer or dress shirt.
Many persons cannot wear belts for supporting their trousers, either due to formation of the bones of the mid-section of the body, or to the girth of their abdominal area, or for other reasons. Many persons prefer to wear suspenders, but do not like to wear suspenders during summer or warm weather, when it is customary to dispense with the wearing of vests and even coats. The object of the present invention is to provide a connector by means of which a standard type of suspenders, such as are worn by men, can be placed under the outer or dress shirt, and supporting connection be made between the usual leather thongs of the suspenders and the buttons of the trousers, in such manner that the undergarment or drawers, sometimes called shorts, may be supported, and the outer shirt restrained from rising on the body of the wearer.
The shape of the frame member, which is in the form of a W having hooks at the outer ends of its arms, allows for fastening the device, by means of said hooks, to the buttons of a garment while the downwardly extending portions of the frame extend beneath an inner garment, for example a shirt, and then upwardly to engage the ends of a pair of suspenders worn out of sight under the said inner garment.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain new and useful constructions, combinations of parts, clearly described in the following specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which the drawing shows an elevated front View of the connector according to the invention,
Two relatively long V-shaped loops are used, one loop including the button receiving loop 25, which is provided with the free end 25a, and which loop also includes the bar 26, the bend 21, and the divergent bar 28. The other V-shaped loop includes the button receiving terminal loop 33, which has an outward free end 33a, and which is connected to the bar 32, and this bar is joined by the bend 3| to the divergent bar 30. The bars 28 and 3B are connected to each other by the hook-loop 29, which is located centrally of the button receiving loops 25 and 33. The intermediate hook-loop 29 is adapted to be connected to the suspender thong, when a single one is employed, or to two suspender thongs when two are employed. The portions of the frame below the terminal button loops will project downwardly on the inner side of the trousers, below the waist band thereof.
Having described my invention I claim as new:
An attachable brace and garment connector comprising a substantially W-shaped frame member consisting of rigid wire, said member having an outer pair of limbs, an inner pair of limbs integrally associated therewith so as to form two hair pin shaped curves at their respective joints with said outer limbs, said outer limbs terminating in a respective pair of inward disposed hooks with respect to said frame member, said hooks having their resilient open jaw extended outwardly and narrowed towards the end of said outer limbs so as to form resilient hook fingers, said inner limbs forming at their integral joint a loop, said loop being bent in substantially parallel direction to said curves, said inner and outer limbs being respectively partially resilient toward each other, said hooks being adapted to receive buttons of an outer garment therein, said loop being adapted to be suspended in the braces worn invisibly under an inner garment in a manner that the rim portion of said inner garment disposed within said outer garment will overhang said inner limbs and said loop down to a line determined by said curves whereby said braces under said inner garment will suspend said outer garment by means of said outer limbs.
