Description
6 1954 R. HOFMANN zewaw ADJUSTING STRAP FOR TROUSER WAISTS Filed March 51, 1950 Patented Feb. 16, 1954:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ADJUSTING STRAP FOR TRQUSER WAIS -S Rudolf Hofmann, Dusseldorf, Germany ApplicationMarch 31, 1950, Serial No. 1153,07 5 east. (01. 2-437.)
This invention relates to improvements inside traps for garments allowing the waist circumference to be ad u t d. These side straps a mostly made from the same material as the trousers themselves or from an elastic and attached either to the waistband or immediately below.
It is an object of the present invention to ensure that side straps are fastened as simply as possible. In order to achieve this object there are provided one or several fastening patches for a sliding eye through which one end of a side strap consisting of an elastic or the like, is slid, an adjustable buckle being attached to said end. To the other end of a side strap there may be attached a fastening which is likewise provided with one or several fastening patches. Preferably, the fastening patches provided with holes are slipped through holes provided in the waistband of the trousers and sewn behind. In this way it is possible to attach adjustable side straps in a most simple way to the waistband of the trousers, without the necessity for especially preparing the waistband for attaching side straps to it.
According to the present invention, one end of a side strap is connected with the fastening in such a way that it is detachable from it. For instance, said end may be laid around a flat pin to be put into bends of the fastening. This enables a side strap to be removed from the waistband, e. g. when a garment is to be ironed, which guarantees a longer use of the strap, apart from the fact that the side strap can be replaced at any time if necessary.
About the middle of a side strap, there is preferably fastened, somewhat below the upper border of the waistband, a metal hook which, in the place of eyes known for that purpose, shall prevent a side strap from sliding up beyond the upper border of the waistband.
Such side strap, however, may also be used for waistbands of jackets, e. g. sport, ski or similar jackets, lumber jackets, or of ladies skirts, allowing the strap to be unhooked.
The invention will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, showing by way of example, a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
Figure l is a side view of a waistband provided with a side strap,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section in the direction of the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a. cross section in the direction of the'lineB-J of Figure 1.
-'I!r0users c nsisting of a front part I and a hind part .2 are a known manner provid d with a waistband 3. On either side there are st p iconsistingof nelastic. One end of th elastic drawn through a sli in ey 5, and is provided with an ad ustable uckl 6 enablin the waistband to be adjusted. In accordance with the invention, the sliding eye 5 is provided, for instance, with two fastening patches 1 and 8 showing holes 9 enabling the patches, which are slid through holes in the waistband 3, to be fastened behind.
At the other end of the side strap 4, there is a fastening II! which is also provided with two fastening patches H and I2 having holes It. The fastening patches I I and I2 are slid through holes provided in the Waistband 3 and fixed by sewing. At either end, the fastening H] is provided with bends I4 holding a fiat pin it, around which one end of the side strap is laid and fastened. To prevent the fiat pin i5, if it is not sewn in, from sliding out of the fastening, the bends l4 may be provided, in addition, with patches l6 bent horizontally.
In this way it is possible to remove the side strap from the fastening l0 and to unfasten the clothing, for instance, in the case of ladies skirts or the like. After removing the flat pin l5, it is also possible, for the side strap to be drawn out of the sliding eye 5, and to be thus removed, which is advisable, in so far as it consists of an elastic, when washing or ironing the clothing concerned.
On the inner side of the waistband of the trousers, there may be provided, in a known manner, a stiffening patch or lining I! or the like.
In the centre of the side strap, there is provided a loop or the like to prevent the side strap from sliding up. Instead of a loop, a metal hook l8 will serve the purpose as well.
What I claim is:
1. Means for adjusting the waist size of a garment comprising an adjustable strap having attaching means at the ends thereof, one of said attaching means including a loop for one end of the strap, at least one tab formed integrally with said loop extending perpendicularly with respect to the loop and adapted to project into an opening formed in the body of the garment, means on the tab for securing the tab within said opening, an anchoring element for the other end of the strap, at least one tab formed integrally with said anchoring element extending perpendicularly with respect to the anchoring element and adapted to project into another opening in the securing said tab within the opening in the garment.
2. Means for adjusting the waist size of a garment comprising an adjustable strap having attaching means at the ends thereof, one of said attaching means including an elongated loop for one end of the strap, a pair of spaced apart parallel tabs integrally formed with said loop extending perpendicularly with respect thereto and adapted to project into spaced apart openings formed in the body of the garment, means on each tab for securing each tab within each opening in the garment, a detachable anchoring device for the other end of the strap, a pair of spaced apart parallel tabs integrally'formed with said anchoring device extending perpendicularly with respect to the anchoring device and adapted to project into spaced apart openings formed in the body of the garment, and means on said last named tabs for securing said tabs within the last named openings in the garment.
3. Means for adjusting the waist size of a garment as claimed in claim 2 whereinthe spaced tabs on said loop and said anchoring device extend in opposite directions.
4. Means for adjusting the waist size 01. a garment as claimed in claim 2 wherein said anchoring device comprises a body portion having spaced apart eyes, a pin disposed in said eyes, and means to support the pin in said eyes.
5. Means for adjusting the waist size of a garment as claimed in claim 2 wherein said strap is provided with an adjustable buckle. in proximity to theloop. 1 I 1 RUDOLF HOFMANN.
