Description
l. MONESSON ELASTIC BELT May 30, 1939.
Filed June 10, 1938 INVENTOR ffrdel flfbfiassbr? Y H 6. ATTORNEY Patented May 30, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 7 2,160,368 ELASTIC BELT Israel Monesson, Lakewood, N. J.
Application June 10, 1938, Serial No. 212,941
3 Claims (Cl. 241-8) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an elastic band for the inside or outside of trousers, underwear, or similar garments.
' More specifically, the invention proposes the construction of an elastic band characterized by a strip of elastic material provided at its ends with a means for releasably securing them together so that the strip may be engaged about 10 the waistline for supporting trousers or underwear.
Still further it is proposed to characterize the releasable holding means by a hook element upon one of the ends engageable with a complementary 15 loop element on the other of the ends.
Still further it is proposed to provide a means for adjustably supporting the hook element and the loop element upon the ends of the strip in such a manner that they may be adjustably ex- 20 tended from the ends of the strip.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended 25 claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of an elastic belt 30 constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modification of the invention showing the manner in which the 35 same is applied to a pair of trousers.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but illustrating a still further modification of the invention.
Fig. 5 is a view looking in the direction of the line 55 of Fig. 4.
40 Fig. 6 is a front perspective view of another form of the belt.
The elastic belt for the inside or outside of trousers, underwear, or similar articles of clothing, according to this invention, includes a strip 45 of elastic material I having ends Ill The strip is adapted to be constructed from rubber or woven elastic material adapted to stretch in the length only.
A means is provided on the adjacent ends IE] 50 of the strip ID for securing these ends together to hold the same in position upon ones body. This means consists of a hook element I I securely attached to the ends Ill of the strip by means of rivets I2 or similar fastening elements. A com- 55 plementary loop element I3 is securely attached to the other end Ill of the strip ill by means of rivets or similar holding elements I4. The loop element I3 is formed with an outwardly extended portion I3 beneath which the bent over end II of the hook element I I is adapted to be engaged. The manner in which the bent over end, II is engaged with the loop I3 is clearly shown by the dot and dash lines II in Fig. 2.
According to the modification shown in Fig. 3 the elastic belt is constructed in a manner similar 10 to the previous form of the invention. A provision is made for releasably connecting the elastic belt with the waistband of a pair of trousers l5. The method of connecting the strip ill with the waistband comprises a plurality of loops I 6 attached to the inner face of the waistband of the trousers l5 and beneath which the elastic strip Ill is passed. The elastic strip II! is passed through the loop I6 in a manner so that the hook element. II and the loop element I3 will be located adjacent the front opening I5 of the trousers.
According to the modification shown in Figs.
4 and'5 a provision is made for releasably supporting the hook elements II and the loop elements I3 upon the adjacent ends Ill of the strip I0 and extended slightly therefrom. The ends H3 of the strip I0 are adapted to be passed into the ends of the tubular elements. I I. The adjacent ends of the tubular elements I! and the strip I!) are adapted to be secured together by means of stitches I8. A band of material I9 is provided for each of the tubular elements I I. The bands of material I9 are adapted to be passed into the open ends of the tubular members I8 and pass out of the tubular members I! into openings I1 formed in the sides thereof.
A means is provided upon the adjacent faces of the bands l9 and strip ID for holding the bands in various extended positions with relation to the open ends of the tubular members 11. This means comprises a plurality of snap fastener elements 20 fixedly attached to one face of the bands of material I9 and selectively engageable with complementary snap fastener elements 2| fixedly attached to the adjacent face of the strip Ill.
The hooks II are fixedly attached to the free end of one of the bands of material I!) and the loop elements I3 are fixedly attached to the free end of the other of the bands of material I9. The free ends of the bands I9 are adapted to extend from the open ends of the tubular members I! in all of their adjusted positions for permitting the hooks I I to be engaged with the loop elements I3 for connecting together the ends of the strip I0. 5
In Fig. 6 a buckle H is shown secured to the device on element I I. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to the previous form and the similar parts are marked with corresponding reference numerals.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, a strip of elastic material, a flexible tubular member mounted on one end of said strip and extended therefrom, a band of material extended into the open end of said tubular member and out through an opening in the side thereof, and means on said band and the adjacent face of said strip for holding said band in various extended positions for controlling the combined overall length of said strip and band.
2. In a device of the class described, a strip of elastic material, a flexible tubular member mounted on one end of said strip and extended therefrom, a band of material extended into the open end of said tubular member and out through an opening in the side thereof, and means on said band and the adjacent face of said strip for holding said band in various extended positions for controlling the combined overall length of said strip and band, said means comprising snap fastener elements on one of the faces of said band of material and engageable with complementary snap fastener elements mounted on the adjacent face of said strip.
3. In a device of the class described, a strip of elastic material, a flexible tubular member mounted on one end of said strip and extended therefrom, a band of material extended into the open end of said tubular member and out through an opening in the side thereof, and means on said band and the adjacent face of said strip for bolding said band in various extended positions for controlling the combined overall length of said strip and band, the end of said strip being passed into the end of said flexible tubular member and the end of said strip and the end of said flexible tubular member being fixedly connected together by means of stitches passing therethrough.
