UNITED STATES "PAT NT NORA I. score: AND NATHAN G. I-IANES, or arasoapano, oAmronnrA.
LINGERIE-STRAP FASTENER.
Application filed March a, 1925. Serial No. 12,729.
To all whom, it mazy concern:
Be it known that we, Nona I. Soorr and NATHAN G. HANEs, citizens of the United States, residing at Atascadero, in the county of San Luis Obispo and State of California,
- have invented a new and useful Lingerie- Strap Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment supporting shoulder straps and more particularly to fasteners for securing the straps to the garment.
Ladies undergarments such as camisoles, teddies, shirts and brassieres are generally held by individual straps or ribbons which are objectionable because of presenting an unsightly appearance when seen through thin waists such as are now worn.
The object of this invention is to pro vide a single shoulder strap equipped with means to cooperate with other means on the garments so that at least three garments may be supported by a single strap and if desired more, the straps being detachable for the purpose of laundrying or changing to provide different colors.
Another object of the invention is to provide an elongated pin or bar having a plurality of fastening elements to cooperatewith corresponding elements on the garment.
Another object of the invention is to so construct a strap fastener of this character that one strap may be easily changed from one garment to another and the fastener changed from one strap to another so that clean fresh straps may be provided at all times and at a moments notice.
A further object is to provide a strap fastener of this character which is smooth and will not injure the flesh or the clothing and yet is strong and durable.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the. precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings;
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a plurality of garments with this improved strap fastener shown applied, the strap being twisted at its lower end to show the opposite side of the fastener;
. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 ofFig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged front elevation of the fastener shown in Fig. 1 detached;
Fig. t is a transverse section taken on the line 14 of Fig. 3;
Fig.5 is a front elevation showing a slightly different form of fastener; and
Fig. 6 is a transverse section taken on the line 66 of Fig. 5.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive a shoulder strap 1 is provided which may be composed of any desired material and which is equipped at its opposite ends with a safety pin 5 composed of resilient wire bent to form'parallel rods 6 and 7 without any coils at their junction such as is usually found in safetytpins. The rod 6 is provided at its free end with a laterally extending hook 8 which is designed to receive the pointed terminal 9 of rod 7 which projects beyond the hook 8 and detachably connects the two rods, it being designed to secure these members after the pointed rod 7 has been threaded through the end of the strap 1 or inserted in a casing 2 formed at. the end of said strap.
Hingedly carried by the rod 6 is an elongated plate or bar 10 equipped along one side edge with spaced hooks or eyes 11 any desired number of which may be employed two being preferably used and located adjacent the ends of the plate 1.0. These hooks 11 are engaged with the rod 6 to form the hinged connection between the plate 10 and said rod.
The plate 10 is provided on its opposite edge with a plurality of hooks 12 spaced suitable distances apart, three of which are here shown and which extend in a direction opposite to the hooks 11 carried by the other edge of the plate. These hooks 12 preferably have their terminals flared outwardly to facilitate their engagement with eyes 13 carried by the respective garments to be supported.
As shown three garments numbered a, 7) and 0 are arranged in superposed relation, a being the innermost with a reinforcing tab 1 1 fixed adjacent the upper edge thereof and which carries the loop or eye 13 to be en* gaged by one of the hooks 12 of the fastener. It is of course nnclenstood that these tabs it are preferably arranged on the inner faces of the garments so as to be invisible and are disposed below the trimming which ordi.
narilyforms a part of said garments- It will thus be seen that a strap 1 equipped with these improved fasteners maybe readily connected with or disconnected from the garments to be supported by. simply engaging the hooks 12 with the eyes 13 or removing them from such eyes as the case may require. The fasteners are also readily removablefrom this strap by disengaging the pointed rod or pin 7 from the strap permitting the straps to be laundered or changed as desired.
In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the strap carrying fastener member is constructed of wire entirely made from a single piece and bent to. provide a strap engaging rod 7 which is interengaged with a hook 8 formed at the other end of the wire.
The wire from which thefastener shown in Figs. 5 and 6 is constructed is bent to pro ride the hooks 12, three of which are shown and which are connected by curved portions 15.
The rod 7 is preferably made blunt at its free end in this form of the fastener to permit it to be readily inserted through the casing 2 of the strap and to avoid danger of the pricking of the flesh of the wearer.
While metal eyes 13 are shown connected with the garment to be supported obviously any form of loops may be used for this purpose.
e claim Y 1. The combination with a plurality of individual garments each having a fastener, said fasteners being arranged in longitudinal alinement when in use; and an elongated bar having attached means for connection with a strap and provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced fastening elements to cooperate with the individual elements on the garments whereby a plurality of garments may. be suspended from a single strap.
2. A fastener of the class described comprising a plate having longitudinally spaced hooks along its opposite side edges, those on one side extending in a direction opposite to those on the other, an attaching member connected with the hooks at one side edge of said plate, the hooks at the other side edge being designed for engagement with loops on the garment to be supported.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto ailixed our signatures.
Nona I. SCOTT. NATHAN G. HANES.
