Abstract

The present invention comprises an improved suspender for providing support for women's maternity clothes and women's non-maternity clothes. An advantageous embodiment of the suspender comprises an elastic strap that has a first fastener connected to the first end of the strap and a second fastener connected to the second end of the strap. The first fastener is used to fasten the first end of the strap to a supported garment such as a pair of pants. The second fastener is used to fasten the second end of the strap to a woman's foundation garment such as a brassiere. One suspender is used to suspend the supported garment on the left side of the woman and another suspender is used to suspend the supported garment on the right side of the woman.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Maternity and non-maternity suspenders hold up the pants, skirts and shorts of pregnant women and non-pregnant women. A suspender type item, which is constructed and worn in a new and unique way, was developed after the inventor was pregnant and couldn't find any pants that didn't sag down as she walked. Maternity suspenders are a useful option for holding up womens'pants because they are functional, comfortable, and worn under clothing—so they do not interfere with the look of an outfit. They will come in different colors to coordinate with outfits or skintones.
  • 1. This product holds up the pants, shorts and skirts of pregnant and non-pregnant women.
  • 2. This product is a set of suspenders which will be used on both left and right sides of a woman's body between a bra and a lower garment.
  • Suspender designs have typically been utilitarian consisting of elastic straps attaching to a pair of pants. Early designs were based on functionality (U.S. Pat. No. 468,561 Dunham February 1892). The front straps typically connect to the pants, arc over the shoulders, cross at the center of the back and connect to the pants at the center back of the pants by a single strap below the cross or to the back sides of the pants by two straps, each extending from the cross at the back. The shoulders of the wearer provide the support for the suspenders that provide support for the pants. Other previous inventions have attempted to incorporate another article of clothing in addition to the pants upon which to attach the suspenders. A collar (U.S. Pat. No. 5,774,899 Griffin July 1998), a vest underneath the shirt (U.S. Pat. No. 790,314 Robertson May 1905), a vest outer garment (U.S. Pat. No. 1,118,572 Nigh November 1914) are examples of designs incorporating upper garments, but none of have illustrated the functionality in securing the bottom garment with a bra.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • For a more complete understanding of the present invention and its advantages, reference is now made to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings:
  • FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of a plan view of an advantageous embodiment of a suspender of the present invention; and
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a diagram that shows how suspenders of the present invention attach a supported garment to a woman's foundation garment.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The suspender of the present invention is unique in appearance and construction to reflect adaptability to holding the pants, shorts, or skirts of a pregnant or non-pregnant woman alike. The suspender of the present invention will also be available in different colors to coordinate with outfits or skintones.
  • Unlike previous inventions this suspender attaches to the bottom side of the bra, which then connects to the side waistband of the pants. The suspender of the present invention combines functionality and ease of use. As worn, the present suspender not only supports the pants but does so underneath clothing, and is not visible. Because the present suspender does not arc over the shoulders it can be attached at any point along the lower margin of the bra providing great flexibility and personal preference for the wearer. The present suspender has a unique aesthetic quality in that it is worn under clothing and that it holds pants up, when the use of a belt is not an option.
  • This present invention is a new design of suspender that combines functionality and design aesthetic for use with the current fashions of pregnant and non-pregnant women. It is constructed of an elastic band with the distal ends of the bands of the suspender of the present invention able to be attached to the pants and bra by suspender clips with one jaw clip on each end. One side of the clip attaches to the side top of waistband. The other clip attaches to the side bottom of bra. The product is adjustable in length. The product is lined with a soft backing. Two of these products are worn at the same time, one on each side of the body. This product is not visible and is worn under clothing. This product holds up the pants, shorts, and skirts of pregnant and non-pregnant women.
