Description

July 12, 1966 w. J. STEPNIAK BABY DIAPER FASTENER Filed May 26, 1964 IN VENTOR waIferJSfepfliak United States Patent 3,259,916 BABY DIAPER FASTENER Walter J. Stepniak, 3128 Carney Ave., Marinette, Wis. Filed May 26, 1964, Ser. No. 370,311 1 Claim. (Cl. 2323) This invention relates to baby diapers and more particularly to a fastener that is used to replace the safety pin that holds the diapers on the baby.
As every mother or anyone else who has. ever placed diapers on a baby well knows, there is always the danger of ones accidentally pricking either the child or oneself with the sharp point of the safety pin if the child should make a sudden move as babies will do from time to time while one is changing the diaper. Pinpricks can very easily cause infection which may become a serious matter for the person involved if the prick is not given immediate attention.
It is therefore the prime purpose of this invention to provide a baby diaper fastener that does not require the use of any pins.
Another object of this invention is to provide a baby diaper fastener that is fully adjustable without danger of damaging the baby diaper.
Another object of this invention is to provide a baby diaper fastener that cannot injure the baby should it accidentally open while it is on the child.
Another object of this invention is to provide a baby diaper fastener that can be used by the most inexperienced person in the art of handling babies.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a baby diaper fastener that takes less time to use than do safety pins.
Various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is .a front view of this invention of a baby diaper fastener.
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of this invention of a baby diaper fastener.
FIGURE 3 is a front view of a baby having a diaper secured by this invention.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numbers designate like parts, it can be seen that this invention of a baby diaper fastener consists of an elastic or rubber strip 5 having one end secured to the elongated member 6 that, in turn, is secured to the fastener 7 by means of the member 8 while the other end 9 is looped around the center vertically disposed member 10 of the buckle 11 that is located on the center of the babys stomach when this invention is in use.
A second elastic or rubber strap 12 has one end suit- "ice ably secured to the elongated member 13 that is opposite the already mentioned member 8, the elongated member 13 being secured to the second one of the aforesaid fasteners 7 by means of a second member 8. The other end of the aforesaid strap 12 is adjustably secured to the first one of the fasteners 7 having a hinged arm 14 that provides a means of securing the edges 15 of the diapers 16, as clearly shown in FIGURE 3 of the drawing.
Each fastener 7 has a vertically disposed strap 17 that is riveted or otherwise secured to the lower end 18 of the hinge member 19 of the clamp 20 that secures the upper edge 21 of the flap portion 22 of the diaper to the upper edge of the center portion of the diaper, as one can see by looking at the already mentioned FIGURE 3.
It is obvious from the just described construction of this invention that I have now provided an entirely new type of fastener for baby diapers that needs no further detailed description as to the way in which it is used.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A baby diaper fastener combination of the character described, comprising a pair of fasteners secured in horizontal spaced relation to one another, first and second elastic straps, said first strap being behindthe second elastic strap and extending horizontally over to the center of the second strap, an adjustable buckle on said second strap, said buckle comprising vertically disposed and centrally located center member secured to one end of the first elastic strap downwardly directed clamp, a vertically disposed strap secured to the upper portion of each one of the said fasteners and to the lower portion of each one of said clamps whereby said clamps may be clamped over the upper edge of overlapping portions of a diaper, and each fastener may be clamped to a substantially vertical edge of a diaper and the straps adjusted to assist in keeping the overlapping portions in place, thereby providing a means of securement of a diaper on a baby.
