2 Claims.
This invention relates to brassires and it comprises an improved hook and eye arrangement for securing the body-encircling band of a brassire in place around the body of the wearer.
More particularly, the invention relates to brassires in which one end of the body-encircling band is equipped with a pair of laterally spaced hooks engageable with similarly spaced hooks carried by the opposite end of the band to secure the latter in place around the body of the wearer. In brassires of this type the hooks are formed separately and secured to one terminal portion of the band so that they areseparated from each other by a exible area of fabric which permits the hooks to have a substantial degree of relative movement that frequently results in one of the hooks working its way out of the cooperating eye in response to body movements.
The object of the present invention is to provide a brassire of the character described in which the two hooks carried by one end of the body band are rigidly held against relative movement so that they cannot work loose from the cooperating eyes with which they are engaged. This object is achieved by forming the hooks as integral, laterally spaced extensions of a substantially rigid metal plate provided with a slot paralleling the edge from which the hooks extend. The hook-carrying plate is secured to one end of the body-encircling band of the brassire by means of a folded strap having its extremities secured to said end of the band and its intermediate portion passing through the slot in said plate, said strap having overlapping portions thereof stitched together along the edge of the plate remote from the hook-carrying edge. A tab, carrying one or more pairs of laterally spaced eyes engageable with said hooks, is secured to the opposite end of the band by means of a folded strap having its intermediate portions secured to said tab and its extremities secured to said band.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. l isa front View of a brassire embodying my improved hook and eye fastening means. In this view the brassire is shown as it appears when in a flattened condition.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged View of the hook-carrying plate shown in Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings,
5 designates a brassire comprising breast pockets 6 and body-encircling band 1.
A substantially rigid metal plate 8, provided with a slot 9 and with integral, laterally spaced hooks I0 projecting from an edge of the plate paralleling said slot, is secured to the end la of band 'I by a folded strap II. This strap is threaded through slot 9 and is folded upon itself to provide crossed portions I2 having their free ends secured to the band by stitching I3. The crossed portions l2 are secured together by a line of stitching I4 immediately adjacent the edge of plate 8 remote from hooks I0.
A second strap I5, folded in the same manner as strap II, has its free ends secured by stitching I6 to the remaining end 1b of band 1. The folded portion of strap I5 is sewn, as indicated at I1, to one end of a tab I8 which carries a plurality of pairs of laterally spaced eyes I9 engageable with the hooks I0.
The hook and eye arrangement described herein for fastening the band I around the body of the wearer is characterized by the fact that the hooks I0 are rigidly connected to the plate 8 which also serves as a common anchoring plate for attaching the hooks to the band. With this arrangement the hooks are held against relative movement which, in the case of separately attached hooks, results in the hooks working out of the engaging eyes.
I claim:
1. A brassire including a body-encircling band, a strap folded upon itself to provide crossed r portions having their extremities secured to one end of said band in overlapping staggered relation, a substantially rigid plate provided with a transverse slot through which the intermediate portion of the strap flatly extends across the length of the slot.' the crossed portions of the strap being secured together adjacent one edge of the plate paralleling said slot to prevent tilting of the plate relative to the body encircling band, laterally spaced hooks formed integral with and projecting from the opposite edge of the plate paralleling said slot, a second strap folded upon itself to provide crossed portions having their extremities secured to the remaining end of said band and a tab having one end secured to the folded portion of said second strap and at least one pair of laterally spaced eyelets carried by said tab.
2. A brassire including a body-encircling band, a strap folded upon itself to provide crossed portions having their extremities secured to one end of said band in overlapping staggered relation, a substantially rigid plate provided with an elongated transverse slot through which the intermediate portion of the strap flatly extends across the entire length of the slot, the crossed portions of the strap being secured together adjacent one edge of the plate by a line of stitching paralleling said slot, a pair of laterally spaced hooks formed integral with and projecting from the opposite edge of the plate paralleling said slot, said hooks being located a substantial distance inwardly from the ends of the plate andL slot and being also located at the opposite sides of and equidistant from the transverse centre 4 line of the slot, a, second strap folded upon itself to provide crossed portions having their extremities secured to the remaining end of said band and a tab having one end secured to the folded portion of said second strap and at least one pair of laterally spaced eyelets carried by said tab.
