I. M. REW. CORSET.
No. 535,627. Patented Mar. 12, 1895.
WITNESSES: INVEN U flaw By 125% ATTORNEY ATENT IDA M. REWV, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CORSET.
$PEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,627, dated March 12, 1 895.
Application filed February 8,1894. Serial No. (N0 od To 00% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IDA M. REW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a corset, and acts essentially as a bust supporter and bust distender, and consists of the ,novel features hereinafter particularly described, illustrated in the drawings and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure I represents a front view thereof. Fig. II represents a side View thereof. Fig. III represents a horizontal section of the bust portion.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The letters A 13 indicate the two sections of the corset each composed of a bust portion and a rear portion and having suitable tape like lacings b at the front and a lacer c arranged in eyelets at the back thereof for the purpose of uniting the sections to each other at those points.
Each of the sections A B is substantially a counterpart of each other and has a shoulder portion 0 forming arm holes D, said sections being so constructed that when applied to use they fit the figure above waist line. In the two sections A B are formed bust portions E of basket shape one opposite to each of the busts of the wearer, each being constructed of vertical segmental pieces F extending from the bottom to the top thereof. At the point of union of the segmental pieces F are formed pockets G following the outline of the edges thereof and into each of these pockets is fitted a whale bone or other stay H to extend vertically of the corset and so that said stay will converge at the lower part of the basket shaped bust portion, the two outside stays being longer than the others, as at a, to afford a better shape to the lower portion of the basket shaped bust portion, and to adapt the corset better to conform to the figure gussets J are interposed between the pockets G and the back of the shoulder straps O.
. subjected to a slight heat and then curved to the desired shape to conform to the configuration of the wearer.
My corset not only affords a very comfortable support to the natural busts, but moreover serves as a bust distender when such an article is desired.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A corset comprising two bust portions united to each other two shoulder straps one to each bust portion and a curved stay extending transversely to each bust portion at its juncture with the shoulder strap, each bust portion being formed of a series of vertical segmental pieces and of stays extending along and united to the meeting edges of the segmental pieces as shown and described.
2. A corset comprising two bust portions united to each other, two shoulder straps one to each bust portion a curved stay extending transversely to eachbust portion at its junct ure with the front endof the shoulder strap and a gusset at the side of the corset inter mediateof the rear end of either shoulder strap and bust portion, each bust portion being formed of a series of vertical segmental pieces and of stays extending along and united to the meeting edges of the segmental pieces substantially as shown and described.
