UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
FANNIE E. DENZEL, OF GLEN ULLIN, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 401,015, dated April 9, 1889.
Application filed October 6, 1888- Serial No. 287,386. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FANNIE E. DENZEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glen Ullin, in the county of Morton and Territory of Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corset to which I have applied my improvements. Fig. 2 is a detached View showing my improvements in detail. Fig. 3 shows still another detail view.
My invention consists in the following construction of certain parts of a corset, whereby resulting advantages accrue, the making of which will now be fully described, and the points of novelty then indicated in the claim.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, the following detailed reference to the drawings is given:
A represents a corset, the main body of which may be of any approved construction or design.
a a are the two halves of the corset.
b is the lacing uniting the two parts in the rear.
The corset is provided with the usualhooks and eyes, stays, and other parts which go to make up an approved corset.
c 0 represent the bust-sections of the corset. These bust-sections may consist of bust-gores or other approved designs in breast-sections.
d d are regulator-flaps for the purpose of altering the shape and size of the bust.
e e 6 show a series of lacing-holes in the body-section of the corset. I
f is the lacing-cord, which unites the regulator-fiap d to the body-section a by means of holes g in the flap d and the holes 6 e e in the body-section.
The flap (1' is secured to the inner side of the bust-section permanently; but the other regulator-flap, d, is adj ustably secured to the series of lacing-holes heretofore mentioned, and for the purpose before described.
The series of lacing-holes e e 6 run in lines radiating or diverging from a point at or near the base of the bust-sections upwardly to the top of the corset.
By removing the lacing-cord f the regulator-flap d may be set in the lacing-holes e or e or 6 according to the prominence or form desired to be given to the bust-sections c c of the corset.
k is the lacing uniting the flaps d d.
h represents a wadding of cotton or other suitable material, which may be interposed between the bust-sections and the regulatorflaps.
2' is a flap secured to the upper edges of the bust-sections, and is adapted to extend inward and over the regulator-flaps in order to cover the space between the bust-sections and said flaps, and also any shaping material which may be contained therein.
My invention is designed to do away with dress forms and shapes now in use. There is great range in the adjustability of the bustsections. The corset is adapted to be adjusted so as to fit the form and shape of the wearer perfectly. Moreover, my improved corset is also adapted to produce the effect of a full and perfect form should the wearer be unduly flat-chested or have any defect or deformity about the body covered by the corset, as there is great amplitude of adjustability of the bust gores or sections. The wearer may also make use of' artificial padding to produce a firm fullness about the bust-sections by introducing such padding between the bust-sections and the flaps, while the inward ly-hanging flaps effectually conceal beyond exposure the padding.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a corset and its bustsection, of double flaps disposed inside the bust-section and secured thereto, and a series of rows of lacing-holes diverging or radiating from a common point at the base of the bust-section upwardly to the top thereof, whereby the bust of the corset is given more or less prominence, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FANNIE E. DENZEL.
