UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.`
CHARLES C. TAYLOR, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENSORY 'GARNI ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,970, dated December 10, 1889.
Application tiled April 16, 1389. Serial No. 307,440. (No model.)
To @ZZ 'wh/0171, t may concern/ Be it known that l, CHARLES C. TAYLOR, a resident ot the city, county, and State of New York, have invented anIm proved Suspensory Garment, of which the following' is a specilication.
The object of this invention is to produce a garment for use in carrying babies, bundles, itc.; and the invention consists in the novel details of improvement and the combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, wherein Figure l is a front View of my suspensory garment, shown in position on a person and holding a child. Fig. 2 is a back view of my garment in position on a person. Fig. 3 is a back view ot' a modilication, and Fig. 4. is a front view of a modification, both being in position on a person.
Referring noW to the drawings, theletter A represents a body or waist, that is shown as made of netting, but it may be lnade of other suitable material. The waist A is provided with a belt B, to be fastened around the waist ot a person by a buckle or otherwise. From the should er portion of the waist A a strip of netting or the like D extends for: ward, as in Fig. l. This strip D may be a continuation of the back of the waist or body A, if desired. Any draft that is applied to the strip D will be communicated to the belt B, and also distributed over the back of the person. From the belt B, at the front of the Waist or body A, depends an apron or strip E, substantially similar to the strip D, the apron or strip E being preferably made of: the same material as the strip D. The apron or strip E carries at its treeh end a buckle l), while the strip D carries a strap a to engage the buckle l), or vice yersa, whereby the ends of the strip D and apron E can be readily connected to form a loop or pocket in which to carry a baby, package, or the like 5 but the ends of the strip D and apron E can be connected otherwise than by the buckle a and strap b, if desired. As shown in Fig. 4, the apron E carries the strap l), while the strip D carries the buckle d.
Vhen desiring` to carry a baby, package, or the like, the garment is placed upon the person and theends of the strip D and apron E are united, whereby a pocket is formed that extends from the belt B in front upto the shoulder, whereby the weight that is placed in the pocket thus formed is support-ed partially by the belt B in front and partially by the shoulder, and is also distributed over the back, as before stated.
Then desired, the body or waist A may be lined with a suitable material. If desired, the parts B, D, and E can be used without the body or waist A, in which case the strip D would extend from the belt B up over the shoulder, as shown in Fig. 3. In this case the ends of D and E will be united to form the pocket, as before stated. In Fig. t two strips D are shown extending over the shoulders, and two aprons E are shown carried by the belt B, to be united with said strips; but it is evident that one or more could be used, as desired. Instead of the apronE being attached to the belt B in front, it could be attached thereto at the side or back, in which case the position of the strip D would be correspondingly changed, so as to support a package in connection with the apron E. It desired, the sides of the apron E could be made of wire or analogous firm material, so as to prevent too great pressure upon the person.
By using netting i'or my suspensory garment the same can be ina-de light and still have great strength, while the strands of the netting will contorni to the shape of the body and distribute the strain over a large area.
llfaving now described my invention, what I claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a suspensory garment consisting of the belt B, adapted to pass around a persons waist, strip D and apron E, united together by the belt,
as described, the strip D being adapted to pass from the belt l over the shoulder, and means, substantially as described, for connecting the free ends of the Strip D and apron E, as speeied.
5 2. The body 0r Waist A, having belt B,
adapted to pass around a persons Waist, combined with the strip D, for passing' from the belt over the shoulder, and the apron E, both connected with the belt B, and means, substantially as described, for uniting the free ro ends of Vthe strip D and apron E, as specifled.
