COMBINED STRAP AND WAISTBAND FOR-PANTALOONS.

INVERTER N. PETERS Phokrllhagnphar. WIINIIXML D. C
Unire Srarns artnr 'rrica HENRI GOODMAN, OF SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINED STRAP AND WAISTBAND FOR PANTALOONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,962, dated July 14, 1885.
Application filed April 23, 1834. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HnNRr GOODMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Luis Obispo, in the county of San Luis Obispo and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pantaloons, &c., of which the following is a specification.
rlhe Object of my invention is to provide a means whereby pantaloons, overalls, drawers, and other like garments are sustained and supported about the person without the aid of suspenders or shoulder-straps- This object I accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forining a part of this specification, andin which- Figure l is a front view of a pair of pantaloons having my improvement attached there- Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken through the pantaloons on a line with the waistband. Fig. 4 is a cross section of the loop, buckle, and its rollers.
Similar letters of reference are used to indicate like parts throughout the several views.
A and A are two similarly-constructed straps, one of which carries a buckle, C, the other being adapted to enter the buckle as a tongue. These straps are situated on Opposite parts of the waistband, are both made of a double thickness Of the fabric or material of which the garment is composed, and are of sufficient length to double back upon themselves. It is necessary, also, to make each of these straps somewhat wider throughout one half of its length than through the other half, in order .that the wider half may be stitched to the waistband and form a pocket, B, through which the other half ofthe strap can slip easily after it has passed around the loop D.
D is a'metal loop, which serves to admitthe narrower lengths of the straps when they are being doubled back upon themselves, and which thus unites these doubled portions at the back of the garment. The long arms of the loop are provided with rollers or tubes E, which permit the doubled straps to move in the loop with ease, which affords a greater relief to the wearer than when thestrap which surrounds the body is fixed and rigid.
In applying my invention to a garment the wider half of the strap A is first stitched to the waistband from the button-flap to a distance a few inches beyond the side seam. Thus the pocket or way B is formed. The narrower length of the strap A is then passed through the metal loop D, and folded back through the mouth B Of the pocket B, and through this pocket until it emerges thence at the iiap. By a similar construction the pocket B and strap A on the opposite side of the waistband is made. Vhen it is desired to tighten the garment about the body, the only requisite is to buckle together the ends of A and A at or near the buttoxrap by suit-able means provided. .By drawing these two ends together the folded parts of A and A will be tightened at the loop D, and the waistband will be secured tightly around the body by once buckling, all necessity for -any button upon the waistband being dispensed with.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, anddesire to secure byv Letters Patent, isf- In pantaloons and like garments, the conibination, with the waistband, of the straps A A', buckle C, and loop D, a portion of each strap being doubled backward under 'another wider portion of itself, which is stitched to the waistband, and said straps being passed through the loop at the back and secured by HENRI GOODMAN.
