UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. ACHESON, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
PAC KAG E-WRAPPE R.
$PEIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,198, dated September 27, 1892.
Application filed April 11,1892. Serial No. 428,591. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. ACHESON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Wrappers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in package-wrappers; and the object of the invention is to provide a cheap, convenient, efficient, and durable means of the class stated, and especially designed for use by travelers and others who have occasion to carry about with them extra garments or other articles for use in emergencies or as circumstances may require.
To these ends the invention consists of the features hereinafter described, and will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an underneath view of the wrapper extended. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same shown in connection with an article or garment partially rolled therein. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the complete package rolled and fastened.
Similar reference characters indicating corresponding parts or elements in the several views, let the numeral 5 designate a strip or piece of any suitable flexible material fastened atone extremity to a short rod, pin, or roller 6 and at the opposite extremity to the straps 7, which straps are also attached to the bar 8. This bar is preferably formed of some rigid or semi-rigid material covered with leather and provided with loops 8, through which the straps are passed and fastened. This bar is also provided with a suitable handpiece 9, having the extremities made fast to the outside of the bar and in position to be conveniently grasped when the package is rolled and fastened, as shown in Fig. 3.
The straps 7, which may be of any suitable length, are perforated at their free extremities and provided with buckles at their opposite extremities, located in proximity to bar8 and adapted to receive, the perforated ends in fastening the package.
In using my improved device the article to be wrapped is laid on the extended wrapper with part 5 uppermost and rolled therein, beginning at the extremity provided with the rod 6. The package is then fastened by the use of the straps 7, making a neat, compact, and symmetrical package.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- I 1. In a package-wrapper, the combination of a single piece of fabric provided with a rod or roller at one extremity, straps to which the fabric is attached at the opposite extremity, said attachment to the straps being made in proximity to their buckle extremities, the straps and wrapper being otherwise disconnected, so that the wrapper may be rolled independently of the straps, and a suitable handpiece attached to the straps, substantiall-y as described.
2. A package-wrapper composed of a single integral piece of flexible material provided with a rod or roller at its free extremity, and straps to which said piece of material is attached at its oppositeextremity, the straps and wrapper being otherwise disconnected, so that the wrapper may be rolled independently of the straps, said straps being perforated and PI'OVIldtd with buckles, whereby the package when rolled may be securely fastened and a bar attached to the straps and provided with a handpiece, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM J. AOHESON.
