To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARY II. JAYNn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Collar Fastener and Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in collar supports and fasteners, and has for an object to provide an improved fastening device for ladies standing collars which may be easily applied and removed, and which may be easily operated for connecting the collar together.

Another object of the invention is to provide a stiffening support for the standing collars of ladies garments, formed with hook members or pieces designed to engage the opposite side of the collar and thus hold the adjacent ends together and the collar properly supported.

In carrying out the objects of the invention, a stiffening member is provided out of any desired material, as for instance celluloid. lhis stiffening strip is provided with any desired number of apertures for receiving stitching, whereby the stiffening support may be secured to a collar on ladies garments. 'Ihe stiffening strip or support is provided with a plurality of hooks connected therewith preferably by eyelets, so that the hooks may engage the opposite end of the collar to that on which the support is secured, and thus connect the ends of the collar properly together. As the hooks are adapted to engage the opposite end of the collar at any desired point, the collar may be adjusted to a greater or less extent for causing a proper fitting to be had.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

mately on line 3-3, the same being shown on an enlarged scale and the collar being shown closed; Fig. 4 is a top plan view of one of the hooks, the same being shown on an enlarged scale; and Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4:, but disclosing a slightly modified form of hook.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, 1 indicates a garment having a flexible collar 2, designed to be supported by any desired means, as for instance, supports 3 and 41-. The supports 3 may be of any desired type. while support a discloses my invention. This support is formed from any desired material, as for instance celluloid, and is provided with a plurality of hook members 5, held in place by any desired form of rivets, as for instance eyelets 6. The hook 5 is formed with an eyelet portion 7 and a pointed hook-shaped portion 8. The eyelet portion 7 may be formed open, as shown in Fig. f, or formed solid, as shown in Fig. 5. Any desired number of these hook members may be connected with the support a, and the support lmay be secured to the collar 2 in any desired manner, as for instance by stitching passing through the various apertures 9.

In use the support t is connected to one of the ends of the collar 2, as for instance end 10, whereby the hooks 5 are adapted to engage the fabric at end 11, as shown in detail in Fig. 3. It will be evident that end 10 may overlap end 11, to any desired eX- tent and the hook members 5 caused to properly engage the collar and thus hold the collar together. It will be evident that the support a may be placed on either end of the collar and on either side so that the hooks 5 could face inwardly or outwardly, as desired.

Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a collar fastener of the class described, the combination with the collar of a garment, with a support arranged on one end of said collar, of a support and fastener secured to the opposite end of said collar, said support and fastener being provided with hook members extending transversely thereof and adapted to engage the end of the collar carrying said first mentioned support, said hook members being arranged opposite said first mentioned support, Whereby said first mentioned support acts as a protecting member for preventing said hook 5 members from contacting with the person Wearing said garment.
