UNrra) STA-Tas PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS ALEXANDER LINDERMAN, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
BUTTON OR CATCH FOR COAT-COLLARS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 694,104, dated February 25, 1902. Application tiled June 26,1901. Serial No. 66,149. (No model.)
To all whom z'z'; may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs ALEXANDER LINDERMAN, a citizen of Russia, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Button or Catch, of which the following is a specifcation.
This invention relates to a button or catch for application to the inside rear portion of coat-collars; and the object of the same is to provide a simple and effective attachment for a coat-collar for engagement with the back collar-button of a shirt to thereby hold the coat-collar in a lined position and prevent the same from riding or slipping upwardly over the shirt-collar.
With this object in View the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of a portion of a coat-collar broken away and looking at the rear of the same, and also a shirt-collar, showing the improved button or catch applied in operative position. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a portion of a coat looking toward the inside of the collar portion thereof. Fig. 3 is a det-ail perspective view of the improved attachment. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of a portion of the upper or collar portion of a coat anda shirt-collar, the coatbeing broken away, showing a modified arrangement of the improved device.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The numeral l designates a coat-collar, 2 any form of shirt-collar, and 3 the button for securing the latter collar at the back. To the inner rear portion of the coat-collar 1 the attachment is applied and consists of a U-shaped member '4, constructed of suitable material, and has secured t0 the back thereof a U-shaped fastener 5. The said fastener may be secured to the member by solder or otherwise and is formed from a single piece of resilient wire having opposite portions thereof doubled and bent outwardly and forwardly to provide keepers 6, and the extremities of the wire are rebent to provide fastening-pins 7, having pointed terminals, the said caught by the keepers to thereby removably secure the attachment in operative position.
By means of the particular-fastening means as shown, and the width of the said slot being less than the diameter of the button-head a positive connect-ion will be established, the member being of such thickness as to permit the button head to bear on the rear side thereof adjacent to the slot 8. By this means a coat-collar can be held in a positively-adjusted position in relation to a shirt-collar, and in removing the coat the attachment will first be disconnected from the button. The parts or edges of the attachment are rounded to prevent injury t-o the articles of apparel adjacent thereto and which would arise by having sharp corners or angles contacting therewith.
The improved attachment willbe found very useful and can be manufactured and sold at a small cost. The member 4 will be made of celluloid, plated metal, or fine or coarse metal; but it is preferred that it be composed of some material that will not discolor tthe shirt-collar.
As shown by Fig. 4, the improved device may be arranged in a position reverse to that heretofore set forth to prevent a coat-collar from pulling down toolow in relation to the back portion of a shirt-collar. In this position of the improved device a convenient hanger will be provided for a coat. While the preferred use of the improved device is either to prevent a coat-collar from drawing down too low or lrising upwardly on a shirtcollar, it will be understood that it can be used for many other purposes-such as a bouquet-holder, curtain-suspender, or garmentholder-without in the least changing its structure and that'it can be readily applied or detached in view ofthe pin-fastening mean therefor.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A catch or holding device of the class set pins beinginsertedin the coat-collar and then l forth, consisting of a U-shaped member, and
IOC
a fastening means applied to one side thereof l justment, the said fastening consisting of a and following out the U-shaped contour thereof, saidmeans having pointed extremities to engage holding devices therefor.
2. The combination with a coat-collar and the rear collar-button for a shirt-collar, of a catch device consisting of a U-shaped member having a fastening for remo'vable application to the inner side of the rear portion of the said coat-collar to engage the collar-button and hold the coat-collar in positive ad- Wire bent into U-shaped form and provided with opposite keepers and rebent pointed eX- tremities to removably engage said keepers. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
