SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 396,861, dated January 29, 1889.

To all whom it may 0072120712 Be it known that I, CARSON P. QRANE, a citizen of the United States, residing at (701- umbus, in the county of Franklin and- State of Ohio, haveinvcnted certain newand usefulv Improvements in Suspenders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the ii'ivention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to thelettcrs and figures of reference marked theremi, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in suspenders; and it relates more particularly to the hooks or ends to which the suspendcr ends or straps are attached.

The obj cct of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, durable, and efficient self-adjusting suspemler which will readily adapt itself to the many changes of position of the body of the wearer and to generally improve upon previous devices of this character.

To these ends, and to such others as 1hcin Veition may pertain, the same consists in the pzculiar combinations and the novel combination, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawin and then particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and. in which Figure 1 represents a side view of the end of a suspender embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a slightly-modiiied form. Fig. 3 is a detail, more particularly hereinafter referred to.

Referrence now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, a represents the webbing forming the suspender shonlder-straps, and l) the catch or buckle-loop, which may be of any approved or well-known construction.

My invention lies in the portion designated by the letter A, which is formed of a single piece of metal, preferably wire, bent into the shape shown, which in Fig. 1 consists of the curved bar or evener c, the eyes, rings, or loops f, and the hoop or-ring 9 between. the

loops f. The construction shown in 2 is essentially the same, except that the side loops, 2:, are not formed with external recesses, q, as shown in Fig. 1, and the central loop, Z,

is slightly different, the ends of the wire not being crossed to form the loop, as in the construction shown in Fig. l.

The attaching-straps 7c, as shown in Fig. 2, are secured to the side loops, 1!, by lapping or folding one end of the strap and securing the same by stitching, as shown in said figure, or in any other suitable way.

The attaching-straps 71: (shown in Fig. 1) are each formed of a single piece bent upon itself to form the loop 7;, which is engaged with the wires above the loop f, fitting in the reccss q, and the ends passed down through the loop f and formed at the free end with a but ton-hole, p, the two strands of the strap be-' ing preferably connected by a suitable clasp, as shown at 0.

In practice it will be found that the shoulder-straps as well as the attaching-straps will readily adjust themselves to the Various changes of position of the wearer without causing undue strain on any portion. thereof.

As an improved article of manufacture, a snspender attachment formed of a single piece of material bent to form the curved bar 0, side loops or eyes formed with recesses q, and a loop or eye between said side loops, all of said loops being beneath the curved bar, with the central loop on a higher plane than the side loops, substantially as shown and de scribed.
