Be it known that I, LILLIAN GRACE Howonrrr, a subject of the British Empire, residing at Wanganui, New Zealand, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Suspeuders, of which the following is a specification.

The obj ect of this invention is to provide a suspender in particular for womens stockings that minimizes the risk of tearing the stocking that has no sewing threads to wear out and that automatically adjusts itself to any movement of the body or legs. The adjustment is such that the suspender is taut when the user is standing and slack when sitting` or stooping and moves with each step in walking so as to take the strain olf the stocking and off the body of the user, resulting in ease and comfort and doing away with all injurious dragging down action.

The invention consists in the features and combinations and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and more particularly set forth in the claims.

There .is a cord (l) passing through a pulley (2) and having its ends adapted to be` fastened to a corset at a short distance apart by means of a hook spring and eye, or a clip on the ends of the cord may have strong webbing which may be sewn into the corset. To the pulley is attached an adjustable elastic band (4). To the lower end (5)1 of the elastic band (4) is attached a round or oval ring (6) (the attachment being made by means of a folding clip (7) which with another ring (8) oval in shape arranged at right angles to the ring (6) forms the stocking grip or holder. These rings may have their edges protected with rubber if desired. rlhe folding clip in addition to holding the first mentioned ring (6) takes in the lower end (5) of the elastic band (4) as well as the two ends 9, l0, of preferably doubled tape 16 which passes around a bar ll formed across the ring 8 to one side of the middle thereof. The clip 7 is clamped down on the band and tape which are held in position and prevented from slipping by several Specification of Letters Patent.

preferably six l2 and 13 punched holes through the metal which grips the mate rials between by reason of the rough edges or bur of the holes. The folded halves of the plate are prevented from springing open by flanges 14, 15 on one of the halves being folded over on the other half see Fig. 5.

The ring 8, is preferably curved as in Fig. 3 and kept seated on the ring 6 by making the tape 16 elastic and having its end or ends clamped to the band 4 above the clip 7 by clip 7a as shown in Fig. 6. Both rings may be oval and a flat surface is preferred to insure a better griplW Oblong or other suitable shapes may be used instead of oval or round rings.

The suspender may have one or two stocking` grip attachments to the elastic band as may be desired.

The method of fastening to the stocking is as follows-Insert the edge of stocking in between the rings, the oval ring with the cross bar being in the under or inside of the stocking and the other ring outside directly over the first mentioned ring, gently press the top end, that is the end nearest the transverse bar of the oval ring, up through the other ring lying immediately above it carrying with it the fold of the stocking and slide it down onto the upper side of the other ring upon which it will lie holding the stocking until released which is done by pulling the oval ring down through the other ring.

That I claim is z- 1. A hose supporting clasp comprising a ring supported in vertical position, a second ring having a diametrically disposed bar formed thereon, said second ring being shorter than the stationary ring and longer in the direction at right angles thereto, and a flexible tape looped around said cross bar and supporting said second ring vertically and in overlapped depending relation to the first ring, whereby said second ring and the overlapped vportion thereof may be passed through said first ring to cooperate with the latter to form a clasp.
