Description

J. F. KURTZ.
TROUSERS SUPPORTING DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 27. 190B.
Patented Feb.22, 1910.
L FFIQE.
JOHN FREDERIC KURTZ, OF CONNELLSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
TROUSERS-SUPPORTING DEVICE.
Application filed August 27', 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN FREDERIC KURTZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Connellsville, county of Fayette, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trousers- Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for so supporting the trousers that the trousers legs will hang straight and not disclose lateral deflection in the limbs of the wearer.
Reference will be had to the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a front View of an ordinary person having bow legs and wearing trousers without my devices. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same person wearing trousers provided with my devices. Fig. 3 is a side view showing the position of the supporting devices when properly connected to the trousers, a part of the latter being removed for clearness of illustration. Fig. at is a front view of the devices in about the form they assume when worn. Fig. 5 is a side detail, showing one form of the lower connection to the trousers.
In the drawings, A indicates the fron meeting point of the trousers legs. At this point I fasten an ordinary eye a of a hook and eye, or any other suitable fastening and engage this fastening by an ordinary hook B, or any other suitable fastening devices. To the fastening device or hook B is secured an elastic connecting band, or other suitable member, C which is connected by a buckle or other suitable adjustable fastening D to a metal plate E, or other suitable device, connecting the member 0 to supporting members F and G of any suitable character, but here shown as a single piece passing loosely through a slot M in the plate E and provided at its opposite ends with metal clips or eyes H, I, adapted to be secured to buttons or other suitable fastenings J and K on the trousers or other parts of the apparel at the sides of the person. The members F and G are provided with a take-up device L, of any suitable pattern, allowing the proper adjustment of length. In place of the clips H and I, I may use ordinary button holes or other suitable fastenings.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1910.
Serial No. 450,467.
The members F and G may be secured to the member C directly in any suitable manner and each member may have its own adjustment (although I prefer the construction here shown), and they may be attached to a belt separate from the trousers, to ordi-- nary suspenders, or to any other garment, at corresponding points, or they may themselves extend around the body of the wearer forming a sort of belt.
In wearing my suspending devices, they are so adjusted that a little more supporting tension is given to the inner sides N of the trousers than to the outer sides 0 and this is a yielding tension owing to the elastic connection C, and hence the inner sides of the trousers legs at all times hang in straight lines from the point A of suspension, as indicated by Fig. 2. Many devices heretofore used for this purpose are objectionable in that they are expensive, troublesome, or uncomfortable, or their presence is evident to observers, while my device is inexpensive, can be worn with comfort, and cannot be readily detected. The several adj ustments mentioned allow the trousers to be supported as desired in the most comfortable manner and to be arranged to suit the figure of the wearer, which is highly desirable.
What I claim is:
The combination with trousers provided with attaching devices at each side near the waist line, of straps secured to said devices, respectively, and extending obliquely downward to a point at some distance above the front portion of the junction line of the trousers leg, a pendent strip slidably connected to and extending downward from the lower ends of said straps, and detachably attached to the trousers at a point in the front portion of said junction line.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses on this 10th day of August, 1908.
JOHN FREDERIO KURTZ.
