To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, RICHARD T. CLARKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at C0- lumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Combined Trousers and Hose Supporter, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to garment-supporters, and is designed to provide a combination device which is arranged to be worn in the manner of ordinary suspenders and is adapted to support a pair of hose in addition to supporting the trousers.

It is furthermore designed to arrange the parts of the device so as to facilitate the application and removal thereof to render the same comfortable to the wearer and at the same time to retain all of the advantages of the two devices as when used individually.

WVith these and other objects in View the present invention consists in the combination and arrangementof parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a garmentsupporter embodying the features of the present invention. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the upper portion of the device. Fig. 4 is a detailelevation of one of ,the suspender-ends. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of Fig. 4, and Fig. 6 is a detail View showing one of the suspender-buttons in engagement with a fastening device for application to the trousersband.

Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

As clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, the present device embodies a pair of shoulder-straps, the members of which are designated 1 and 2,respectively. These strap members are crossed in the back and connected at their point of crossing, as indicated at 3, in any well-known or suitable manner. The rear end of each strap member is extended downwardly below the front ends of the members and is provided at its lower end witha slide or buckle 4', which is adjustable longitudinally upon the strap, and carries a pair of pendent downwardly-diverged hosesupporting straps 5, at the lower free ends of which are any well-known or preferred form of hose-engaging fastenings 6. As the straps 5 and fastenings 6 are common and wellknown, it is not deemed necessary to enter into a detail description thereof.

The front end of each suspender member is formed into a loop 7, which is made adjustable by means of any common or well-known buckle or slide 8 usually employed at this point. A metallic link 9 is hung from this loop, and from the link depend the usual suspender- ends 10 and 11, of which the rear member 10 is extended downwardly and secured to an intermediate point of the lower portion of the adjacent shoulder-strap member, as indicated at 12, preferably by stitching together the two straps.

" For connecting the suspenders to a trousersband each member 11 is provided with an outwardly-directed headed stud or button 13, a similar stud or button being carried by the member 10 at a corresponding distance from the link 9. Similar headed studs or buttons 14 are applied to the rear sides of the shoulder-strap members and disposed to lie in substantially the same horizontal plane with the studs 13 when the device is in use. As best illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, it will be seen that each of the studs or buttons is carried by a back-plate l5, and this back-plate is fitted in a fold of the adjacent strap, the folded portions being connected by stitching 16, extended round the plate, and thereby holding the same in place, the outer side of the folded portion being slitted to permit of thestud or button projecting therethrough.

When in use, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings, it will be seen that the suspenderstraps 1 and 2 fit over the shoulders in the usual manner, and the Suspender- ends 10 and 11 are disposed in the position assumed by such ends of ordinary suspenders, and as the said ends are free from one another they may be individually secured to a trousers-band in the manner hereinafter described. Furthermore, the Suspender-ends 10, which are connected to the front end portions of the Suspender-straps, hold said end portions at the sides of the wearer, so as to dispose the hose-supporting members in proper position for engagement with the hose.

In lieu of the common suspender-buttons ordinarily applied to the trousers-band it is preferred to employ the fastening device indicated at 17 in Fig. 6 of the drawings, said device being secured to the inner side of the trousers-band by means of stitches, whereby the headed studs or buttons of the present garment-supporter may be conveniently engaged with said fastenings in the manner indicated in Fig. 6.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the device of the present invention combines hose-supporters and trousers-suspenders in a very simple manner, the parts being arranged so that the device may be conveniently applied and removed and also ren dered comfortable when in use.

A very important feature of the invention resides in the fact that the suspenderends are independent of one anotherin order that they may be individually connected to the trousers-band,and therefore may be conveniently adjusted to the fastening devices 17, whether or not said devices are spaced at regular intervals.

What is claimed is- 1. A combined trousers and hose supporter,

comprising a pair of shoulder-straps crossed at the back and secured at the point of crossing, the front ends of the straps terminating in adjustable loops and the rear ends being extended below the front ends and provided with hose supporters, trousers engaging means carried by the rear portions of the straps, and Suspender-ends hung from and adjustable with the loops, the rear members of each pair of Suspender-ends being extended downwardly and rearwardly and connected to the respective adjacent lower rear end portions of the shoulder-straps.

2. A combined trousers and hose supporter, comprising a pair of shoulder-straps crossed at the back and secured at the point of crossing, the front ends of the straps terminating in adjustable loops and the rear ends being extended below the front ends, downwardlydiverged pairs of hose-supporters adjustably carried by the lower rear ends of the straps, headed studs carried by the rear portions of the straps, pairs of downwardly-diverged suspender-ends carried by and adjustable with the loops, the rear members of each pair of suspender-ends being extended downwardly and rearwardly and connected to the respective adjacent lower rear end portions of the straps at points remote from and below the headed studs, and headed studs upon the free end portions of the suspender-ends.
