Description

R. J. CAVALIER.
HOSE SUPPORTER APPLICATION man JULY 21. 1919.
Patented Nov. 23, 1920-.
UNITED STATES ROY J'. CAVALIER, 0F QSWEGO, NEW YORK.
HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
Application filed July 21, 1919. Serial No. 312,216.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROY J. CAVALIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oswego, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Hose-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a hose supporter which will hold the stockings securely from spaced portions of the stockings, and which will obtain the support principally from the waist of the wearer, while providing means to prevent accidental displacement or detachment of the clasp from the hose.
I attain these and other objects of my invention by the device illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of the device as it appears in use; and Fig. 2 is a detail rear elevation of member 11. I
Referring to the drawings, I provide an adjustable waistband l, a portion of which is looped back and secured to a suitable adjusting clasp 2. I provide a suitable hook 3 and eye l for securing the waistband about the waist of the wearer. Attached to and depending from the front portion of the waist band are suitable spaced elastic straps 5. I provide a slotted fastening plate 6 through the horizontal slots 7 of which passes strap 5, while through the lateral slots 8 extends an elastic strap 9, to which suitable clasps 10 are secured, a similar clasp 10 being attached to the end of strap 5. I provide a slotted engaging plate 11, having horizontal slots 12 through which elastic strap 9 is passed, and having lateral slots 13 through which a suitable elastic leg-encircling band 14 is passed. I provide a similar member 11 on strap 5, as shown, supporting strap 14 from strap 5. I provide stocking securing clasps 10 having elongated laterally grooved rubber-covered buttons mounted on cloth straps 16 which come next to the skin, the buttons 15 being engaged by suitable metal loops 1'? in the usual manner, a more secure grip of the clasp on the stocking being obtained however by the peculiar shape of buttons 15. Buttons 15 are comparatively wide, and being covered with rubber cannot tear the stocking, and having lateral grooves provide a more secure engagement of the clasp with the stocking. I provide straps 5 and 9 with individual adjusting buckles or clasps 18 permitting of individual adjustment of these respective straps below band 14, the straps being looped and having their ends secured to the clasps 18. I also provide a similar adjusting buckle or clasp 19 for the looped portion of band 14, and suitable fastening means for said band, such as the hook 20 and eye 21.
The manner of application of the device is disclosed in the accompanying drawings. The stocking is supported at spaced portions so as to hold it up evenly about the top and in extended position, and the weight of the supporting strap is borne from the most convenient and comfortable position on the wearer, as illustrated.
What I claim is:
1. In a hose supporter, the combination of a plurality of stocking-engaging clasps, elastic straps spaced well apart from each other and carrying said clasps, slotted plates mounted on the straps, adjustable leg-encircling straps extending through the slotted plates to prevent twisting of the stocking and to lessen the strain on the straps, supporting elastic straps to which the first mentioned elastic straps are attached, and an adjustable waist band to the front portion of which said supporting elastic straps are fastened, to pull the front of the waist band downward, whereby the weight of the stockings will be sustained in comfort and prin cipally by the portion of the waist band extending around the back of the wearer.
2. In a hose supporter, the combination of an adjustable waist band having means for fastening same about the waist and adapted to distribute the weight of the stockings equally about the hips and about the back, elastic straps spaced well apart and depending from the front portion of said waist band, second elastic straps attached to each of the aforesaid depending straps, slotted plates securing the said second straps to the depending straps, a plurality of stocking means for securing said encircling straps to p the straps which carry the clasps for the purposecf providing a supporter adapted to sustain the Weight of the stockings in 10 comfort and principally from the portion of the Waist band extencling around the hips and. back of the wearer.
ROY J. CAVALIER.
