PATENT OFFICE.
PANTS AND GARTER ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,894, dated July 18, 1905 App1ication filed September 12, 1904. Serial in). 224,143.
To (all wit/271v it may concern:
' in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pants and Garter Attach-' ments; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in pants with garter attachments, and more particularly to improved knee-pants or knickerbockers, the object of the invention being to provide improvements of this character in which the garters or hose-supporters are concealed within the legs of the pants and are so attached to the pants at the seams as not to disfigure the same; and the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of. parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a trousers-leg turned wrong side out, illustrating our improvements. Fig. 2 is a view in section, showing the application of our improvements; and Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, illustrating a modification.
1 represents the leg of a pair of trouser having the ordinary seam 2, to which a webbing 3 of any length, preferably of elastic, is sewed. The webbing is placed at right angles to the seam, as indicated by 3, and sewed thereto as the binding-tape is sewed to the seam and to insure the trousers-leg hanging loose around the leg of the wearer. The webbing is then bent at right angles and may be stitched to secure it in such position. The lower end of the webbing has a fastening de vice 5L thereon, which terminates shortof the lower end of the trousers-leg and is adapted to be fastened to the stocking and securely hold the same without the garter being seen from the outside. Garters are to be provided at both seams of the leg, although only one may be employed, if desired.
As shown in Fig. 3, the webbing may be made in sections having suitable couplings 5, and a loop 6 may be sewed to the seam below the point of attachment of the webbing, which latter is passed through this loop, and the loop serves to properly hold the webbing in posi-' tion when webbing extends from crotch down.
It will be seen that with our improvements the object is to prevent the necessity of wearing an extra garment or belt for the garters to be attached to, as the kind in ordinary use necessitates, and also to prevent garters being mislaid, as often happens with the round-band garters, and our improvements are extremely simple in construction and add but slightly to the cost of manufacture of a pair of trousers.
A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from our invention, and hence we do not restrict ourselves to the precise details set forth, but consider ourselves at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of our invention.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As an article of manufacture, a pair of trousers and garter-webbing permanently secured to the seam inside of each leg and at right angles to said seam, and made to extend longitudinally of the leg, and a fastener at the lower end of each webbing.
2. As a new article of manufacture, knee pants having garters secured therein to the leg-seams, and loops also secured to the legseams below the attachment of the garters thereto and through which the garters pass.
In testimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
