TROUSERS AND SUSPENDER COMBINATION Filed Dec. 22, 1944 Patented Mar. 16, 1948 sinus TROUSER AND SUSPENDER GOIVmINATION Walter A. Thomason, Jr., United States Army, Charlotte, N. 0.
Application December 22, 1944, Serial No. 569,385
(Granted under the act of March 3, 1883, as amended April 30, 1928; 370 0. G. 757) 3 Claims.
The invention described herein, if patented may be manufactured and used by or for the Government for governmental purposes, without the payment to me of any royalty thereon.
This invention relates to a trouser and suspender combination and has for its primary object, to provide a construction whereby the trousers may be readily detached from the suspenders at the waistline, and-just as readily connected to the suspenders without removing the upper garments or searching beneath them for the nds of the suspenders.
More specifically, it is an object of the invention to provide a combined suspender and belt for use with trousers having openable loops spaced about the waist line thereof, whereby the trousers may be secured to or released from the belt by closing the loops around the belt or by opening the loops, as desired.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a pair of trousers and showing the same attached to the novel suspending means, and,
Figures 2 and 3 are sectional views taken at spaced points along the waist line.
Referring to the drawing in more detail, the numeral l indicates a pair of trousers of conventional design, except that the series of closed loops usually spaced about and stitched to the exterior of the Waist-band have been omitted. In the present instance in lieu of such loops, a series of straps 2 of cloth or the like, have their upper ends permanently secured to the upper edge of the trousers at suitable intervals, and their free ends are detachably secured to the trousers in enveloping relation to the belt.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the free ends of the straps 2 are shown as attached to the upper edge of the trousers and provided with snap fasteners 3 for cooperation with complementary fasteners A secured to the trousers just below the usual detachable belt '5. It will be understood, of course, that other types of fastening means such as buttons may be employed, if preferred.
The suspenders which form an essential part of the present invention, comprise a pair of straps of electric webbing 66, crossed adjacent their rear ends, and permanently connected together as by lines of stitching 7. Both the front and rear ends of the straps 66 are provided with loops 8, which are preferably formed thereon by turning up the free ends of the straps and stitching them to the body portion as indicated by the numeral 9.
The operation of this combination of elements will be readily apparent; initially the belt 5 may be threaded through the straps 2 on the trousers in the usual manner, and through the loops 8 on the ends of the suspenders. Or, the belt may be threaded through the loops 8 only, and the attachment to the trousers may be made by passing the ends of the straps 2 over the belt 5 and secur ing the snaps 3-4. In either event, if it desired to remove the trousers without first removing the upper garments, it may be accomplished by merely opening the snaps 3-4 thereby releasing the free ends of the straps or loops 2, and permitting the belt and trousers to be lowered. Upon bringing the trousers to normal position the straps may be again snapped over the belt and thus securely support the trousers in place. It is to be particularly noted that in the operation of connecting the trousers to the belt while the upper garments remain in position on the wearer, the presence of the belt 5 in the loops 8 has a distinct advantage in that it may be readily located, whereas, when the ends of ordinary suspenders are released from the trousers it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to locate them within a reasonable time.
From the foregoing description and'the attached drawing, it will be apparent that the present construction provides a strong and reliable means for supporting trousers, particularly service trousers, in the pockets of which it is customary to carry objects of considerable weight; and that the structure is such as to permit the ready attaching and detaching of the trousers without undue inconvenience on the part of the wearer.
While the structural details embodied in the invention have been described at considerable length, it will be understood that various changes within the scope of the invention may be made in such details, and it is intended that the claims be so construed.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination: suspenders having at least one front strap and at least one back strap, a belt carried by said suspenders, means for permitting free sliding movement of said front and said back strap relative to said belt, trousers carried by said belt, and at least three spaced means permanently secured to the waistline of said trousers, each of said last-named means having a free end and releasable fastening means on said free end for selectively engaging and releasing said belt; whereby said trousers are securely supported in operable position by said belt and suspenders, and are readily detachable from and attachable to said belt and suspenders without disarranging upper garments of the wearer.
2. In combination: suspenders having at least one front trap and at least one rear strap, a plurality of loops on said suspenders, one of said loops secured to said front strap and another of said loops secured to said rear strap; a belt threaded through and slidable in said loops trousers; and means permanently secured to said trousers for releasably engaging said belt, said means comprising at least three straps secured to said trousers in spaced relationship, each of said straps having a free end, fastening means carried by said straps at said free ends, and complementary fastening means permanently secured to said trousers for releasable engagement with said first-named fastening means; said trousers being disengageable from said belt and suspenders by releasing said first-named fastening means from said complementary fastening means; whereby said trousers are securely supported in operable position by said belt and suspenders, and are readily detachable from and attachable to said belt and suspenders without disarranging upper garments of the wearer.
3. In combination: suspenders having at least one front strap and at least one rear strap, a plurality of loops on said suspenders, one of said loops secured to said front strap and another of said loops secured to said rear strap; a belt threaded through and slidable in said loops; trousers; and means permanently secured to said trousers for releasably engaging said belt, said means comprising at least three straps secured to the waistline of said trousers at spaced attachment points, each of said straps having a free end, fastening means carried by said free ends, and complementary fastening means permanently secured to said trousers for releasable engagement with said first-named fastening means, said complementary fastening means being vertically spaced from said attachment points at a distance exceeding the width of said belt; said trousers being disengageable from said belt and suspenders by releasing said first-named fastening means from said complementary fastening means; whereby said trousers are securely supported in operable position by said belt and suspenders, and are readily detachable from and attachable to said belt and suspenders without disarranging upper garments of the wearer.
