Abstract
344,483. Circular knitting-machines. STIBBE, G., 9, Newarke Street, Leicester. Nov. 29, 1929, No. 36632. [Class 74 (ii).] In a circular knitting-machine such as that of Specification 323,582, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], wherein additional needles are put into action for fashioning a tubular fabric, the web-holders are so constructed or operated that concurrently with a change in the number of active needles the position of the edges of the web-holders, over which the needles draw their loops, is varied relatively to the needles to maintain uniformity of the knitted loops. In one form, Fig. 1, the webholder 5 is provided with two ledges 6, 7 so that when the sinker is retracted to bring the lower ledge adjacent to the needle hook, a short loop is formed. As an alternative to this form, two separate sinkers having ledges at different height are arranged in the same groove, and are selectively introduced. The two ledges 6, 7 may be replaced by a sloping ledge 9, Fig. 3, or the web-holder may be mounted in an inclined trick. In another arrangement the web-holder is constituted by two elements working side by side in the same trick, one element having a web-engaging throat, while the other has a knocking- over ledge, the second element functioning to vary the size of the loop formed by the associated needle.
