564,391. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. Feb. 8, 1943, No. 2063. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1942. [Class 74 (ii)] In knitting accordion fabric upon a machine in which one yarn is supplied to all the needles at one feeder and a second and finer yarn is supplied to alternate needles only at a second feeder, the second yarn 10 is drawn by the alternate needles 17, 19 over the nibs of the sinkers 14, 20. The floats or sinker loops 22 connecting adjacent needle loops 4, 6, 8 of the second yarn are thus caused to rob the yarn from these needle loops so that the rib appearance is accentuated. A greater tension may be applied to the second yarn than to the first yarn. The knitting cams at the second feeder may be arranged to cause the needles to draw shorter loops at the second feeder than at the first feeder.
