Abstract
773,546. Knitting. ZIEVE, W. A. Sept: 1, 1954, No. 25343/54. Class 74 (2). A series of 2 x 2 rib portions m, k fabric are knitted in string formation and are connected by a draw thread Z knitted on spaced needles. The course following the draw thread Z is knitted of a thread a on those needles which have not knitted the draw thread Z and which have cast off the loops that they previously held. The subsequent course a also is knitted on spaced needles omitting at least some of the needles which knitted the thread a. This arrangement ensures that when the draw thread is removed, a non-ravelling selvedge is produced for the following portion k. To deter unravelling of the adjacent selvedge of the portion m, some of the loops in the wales which contain the loops of the draw thread, are held prior to feeding of the draw thread. This tensions the fabric in these wales and relieves the strain on the wales which have their loops subsequently cast off the needles.
