530,502. Knitted fabrics. BLANK, W. June 27, 1939, No. 18615. Drawings to Specification. [Class 74 (ii)] Relates to a puckered knitted fabric and to the method of knitting it on an 8-feeder dial machine fitted with welting devices on both beds. The alternate cylinder needles are removed. Two adjacent feeders knit elastic thread on cylinder needles only, while five adjacent feeders knit relatively inelastic yarn on dial needles only. One feeder knits inelastic yarn on both sets of needles. This feeder may be provided with a patterning wheel operative on cylinder needles only. The elastic component of the fabric is stretched while on the machine and the subsequent release of tension causes the fabric to pucker. The fabric is suitable for bathing costumes and garments for beach wear.
