Abstract
782,246. Knitting-machines. KIDDEMANUFACTURING CO., Inc. Jan. 16, 1956, No. 1386/56. Class 74 (2). A freely rotatable rod 17 or freely supported plate 49 is positioned on a needle bed of a warp machine to assist the production of stitches during the knitting process. Alternatively the plate may be secured at its lower edge but made flexible to provide the desired resistance. During the knitting of the warp yarns the rod 17 freely rotates to allow the cast-off stitches to pass over the edge of the needle bed under the tension of the take-up mechanism. The rod may be lodged in recesses in the top edge of the trick blades of the bed and held in position by the fabric extruding from the needles, or the rod may be rotatably supported in the recesses by bearings 19 at each end. The plate 49 may be freely supported by a ledge 44 and move towards and away from the bed as the knitting cycle progresses, the upper edge of the plate extending slightly above the top edge of the trick blades to engage the loops of the fabric as they are cast-off the needles. Where the plate is rigidly secured to the ledge 44 it assists the casting-off of the stitches by flexing towards and away from the needle bed.
