The forward and reverse raising of clearing cams 20, 22 are adjustable on the lock of a flatbed machine so that they may (a) engage the butts of the needles to raise them to clear and subsequently knit under stitch cam 24; (b) engage the butts of the needles to raise them to a position to take yarn but not to clear their previous loops, so as to produce tuck stitches; (c) engage only those needles which have previously been selectively raised and which thereby subsequently knit; or (d) miss completely the butts of all the needles.
