Abstract

To make the components at each work station of a circular hosiery machine or knitting machine more compact, and thereby increase the possible number of work stations around the needle cylinder 10 of such a machine, use is made of needles 14 each of which has a hump-free hook, preferably with parallel limbs spaced apart by a distance just greater than the thickness of the yarn to be knit, with a respective hook-closure part 15 which has an end which projects towards the hook and closes the latter by entering into its gap, and a jack 13 with a radial casting-off finger 16, these associated components, namely the jack, needle and closure part all being accommodated together in a respective slot in the cylinder 10 and controlled by a cam arrangement 18, 20, 21, 22. An associated sinker disc 11 slidably accommodates corresponding sinkers 34 each of which is stepped at its end presented to its respective needle 14 having notches 42 and 43 respectively for a plush thread and a ground thread. <IMAGE>
