Abstract

To avoid undue stress being exerted on the pelerine loop spreading instruments of a cylinder and dial machine due to their flexing when withdrawn after transferring the intervening sinker loops to the adjacent needles, each needle of a pair of adjacent needles has associated with it a pair of spring blades 3, 4, one of which is cranked to spread the loop when the blades are advanced to engage the sinker loops and extend it over its associated needle and the other of which passes to the other side of the needle. The distance between the needles is therefor not material as each pair of blades merely has to flex about its own needle.
